Skiing activity
Skiing activity started in the mid-nineteenth century in Colorado initially as a way of traveling through mountains covered by snow. The people living in the rural mountain towns used skiing to get around in the winter periods. [1]Skiing remained a popular sport up to 1910 after which a wave of Scandinavian immigrants brought about the game of Nordic skiing to Colorado, and this lead to an increase in skiing activities where hundreds of people participated in weekly contests. In late 1920, there was the introduction of downhill skiing, and this resulted in the Nordic skiing slowly fading since downhill skiing was much easier to learn and allowed people to enjoy with minimal skills. This led to the quick spreading of this activity throughout North America, and by 1930 many small ski hills were opened throughout Colorado, and in January 1940, the low ski hills were dedicated to the Winter Park.[2] As interest picked up in skiing, early ski resorts developed in response to the desire to ski, particularly at areas near large urban markets
