US Health Care System

A large number of people all around the world suffer due to a lack of access to proper health care. The united states population is not exempt from this. Many people in the US lack insurance which means that they are not able to afford the prohibitive cost of treatment in America (Formosa, 2019). The USA is the only developed country that does not have a Universal Healthcare System in place and spends millions of dollars each year in healthcare (Ridic, Gleason, & Ridic, 2012). The most well-known countries with such a system in place are Canada (National Health Insurance) and Britain, England (National Health system).

The healthcare system in Canada is one of the best in the world. Healthcare delivery in Canada is provided by the National Health Insurance system, which is financed by taxes and premiums paid yearly or monthly by Canadian citizens (Formosa, 2019). It is also different for each province in Canada, making it a sustainable system.

The Canadian National Health Insurance ensures the provision of healthcare to all its citizens without any discrimination. Chronic diseases, which are quite expensive to treat, are also covered (Brown, 2003). This system contributes to the improvement of quality of life as one does not have to worry about bills and medical expenses.

In my opinion, the US should ultimately implement a National Health Insurance like in Canada to provide affordable healthcare to its citizens. No American should have to suffer due to their inability to pay for healthcare. They should have access to medical care regardless of their economic standing. Unemployed, disabled or uninsured, accessibility to healthcare should be a fundamental human right. Though it is not without flaw, it is a system worth emulating.
