The manner I have handled challenges by being patient
The manner I have handled challenges by being patient has not only placed me as a better person but also influenced me towards finding my inner strength. By demonstrating patient while handling problems, will put me in a better position to business school, especially when interacting and sharing ideas with others. When such happens, the people around me will discover how unique they are and able to exercise better approaches on how they can handle problems in their lives. In this way, through overcoming challenges will make me a valuable addition to the Olin Community because it will open more opportunity for me to continue sharing ideas with other learners.
My inner strength can be traced back. When my mother passed away in June 2016, my world fell into pieces. For an instant, I lost sight of my dreams but later uniquely overcame this challenge: through volunteering. I decided to teach and mentor orphaned children in my community. Having understood what, it meant to lose a parent, and I wanted to provide fellow orphans with friendship and support. Moreover, I felt that at their young ages (under 18), they needed guidance and a “big sister” to look up to. Through the volunteering experience, I have been able to overcome my loss and to do something meaningful for the society that will also influence others positively.
Additionally, I partnered with an orphanage in my community called Save the Children Alliance to run mentoring sessions during the weekend. Each session focused on different themes. Sometimes, we would talk about academic challenges such as a complex algebra problem or a French essay, whereas other times, we discussed socialization – networking, teamwork, and dating. Each session with these angels motivated me to overcome my depression.
Over time, I have noticed an interesting trend: the academic performance of the children I worked with has improved significantly. Three-quarters of the students qualified for college education, whereas others won scholarships after an outstanding performance in their Nation GCE Examination. An indication that I have the potential to mould other students to be better people in society. Furthermore, through my mentorship skills and also dedicates towards seeing other people will make me a better person within the community. Since I have realized I have unique potential such as mentoring others and dedicated to ensuring others benefits in whatever the activities, they focus on achieving.
Through the mentorship being offered at Olin and a lot of peer coaching, I will be of significant value to the people around particularly to students. As the experience with Children was very impactful in my life, and it will help me regain my strength and motivation after losing my mother. Additionally, it taught me to think beyond my failures and create something from nothing. I handled one of my most significant challenges uniquely by learning mentoring and motivational skills, which I believe can be very instrumental to the Olin community. Furthermore, the peer coaching procedure at Olin also matches my mentoring experience, which makes me helpful to the institution.
