industrial knowledge-based subjects

I am the type of person who gets pumped up when it comes to handling a process right from its initial stages to its final execution, which brings some remarkable results as a success. After higher secondary education, my purpose for choosing Mechanical Engineering was to gain knowledge about the fundamentals involved in the manufacturing of a product and its applications in an organisation. This purpose was fulfilled by studying certain core subjects such as Manufacturing Processes, Metrology and Quality Control, Power Plant Engineering, Industrial Engineering, etc. without which my journey would have seemed to be incomplete. However, my areas of interest have constantly found their ways towards industrial knowledge-based subjects.

It has always been a thrilling experience for me when there is a plan to be constructed and accomplished. I experienced this when I was a member of the go-kart team of our college, which gave me an opportunity to work in every single department right from designing, procurement of chassis material, manufacturing to the final testing of the go-kart. In my consideration, a task that involves proper planning, its implementation and achieving the desired output pushes a person to become more responsible and accept the challenges that arise within that process.

For the sake of getting real industrial exposure, I did a 1-month internship at Burckhardt Compression (India) Pvt. Ltd., a reciprocating compressors manufacturing company. This internship made me learn about the functions of every department and how those are linked with each other. It also made me aware of all the practical insights and corporate ethics. In my final year of engineering, my two friends and I were assigned a project from Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), in which we had to design and perform analysis of a bomb-trolley for mobility and explosive filling purposes of a 1000 kg bomb. Dr. Pramod Bagade, our college professor, guided us throughout the project. This project taught me how to work precisely as explosive material was associated with our project model, so we had the responsibility to work without any flaws. Also, we had to present our work from time to time, which developed presentation and leadership qualities in me.

Being curious about various industrial operations, I decided to opt for Industrial Engineering as one of my last semester elective subjects in order to gain in-depth knowledge about the work-flow and strategies that are applied. Through this subject, I learned some exciting modules such as Inventory Control which is utmost important for smooth and efficient running of production with least interruptions, forecasting of the demands in future and accordingly deciding the plan of action, production planning and control for effective usage of resources to attain prefixed goals and transportation models by which total transportation cost is minimised while satisfying the supply and demand conditions. These topics almost matched my expectations from a job that I would like to work in the later run.

After completing my graduation, I decided to go for post-graduate studies and started preparing for GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering), where I revised all the engineering subjects thoroughly. But, it became a fairly challenging task for me, as it made me realise that I lacked the enthusiasm for the technical research-based sector. For subsequent months of the examination, I took a break from my educational paradigm and joined a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) named Yuva Spandan, Pune. Through this NGO, I have carried out a couple of social activities with a motive of nurturing humanity in me. I really enjoy my contribution towards society as it makes me a better individual to connect people in a helpful way.

Back in the month of September 2019, after a mind refreshing break, I started thinking about my further education. While analysing my previous experiences, it was observed that Supply Chain Management could be a preferred sector for me, as I already had those abilities which involve certain management skills. Considering knowledge from my last semester elective subject, the teamwork and strategies from go-kart event, the leadership and problem-tackling skills which were put into use during DRDO project and development of public relations from NGO activities, I began to search for a field which involves all these qualities and finally ended up selecting Supply Chain Management. This is the only field in which, I believe, I can work with endless drive and motivation.

When it was the time to decide the country to pursue my post-graduate education, I preferred the United Kingdom as there are many reputed institutions and universities with ample of facilities provided for students. Moreover, the United Kingdom provides a plethora of well-established industries that provide excellent work placements. To gain hands-on experience in the field of my desired programme, I bagged an internship at Arcatron Mobility Pvt. Ltd. This company deals with the manufacturing of medical devices for people with limited mobility and elderly care needs. As a Supply Chain Intern, I will be working with this company for six months, beginning from 16th December 2019. Currently, I am working in the Logistics Department and in the further duration I will be working in the relevant departments as well. Through this internship, I will understand the prerequisites of my post-graduate field and will be ready to acquire deep knowledge of the glorious world of Supply Chain Management.

A post-graduate degree from your esteemed university, coupled with international exposure, would greatly enhance my utility value. Also, after completion of this MSc course, I will be well-poised to enter the industries as a business professional that can help corporations to optimise their various supply chains, as well as consistently assess their performance to ensure that all demands are met. Hence to achieve these goals, I look forward to getting an opportunity to be a part of your respected university and I hope the Admission Committee considers my application with a positive response.
