Ethical Considerations
Ethical considerations are paramount in any business institution. Not only is the management of the business entity supposed to respect the shareholders but also the stakeholders. Stakeholders such as employees ought to be ethical in their operations within and out of the business premises. Besides, they should incorporate all the aspects of ethics when handling matters concerning their business; for instance, honesty, integrity, trust, accountability, and be law abiding. However, some of the employees show high levels of unethical issues to both their employees and customers leading to high losses in the business.
According to the story Brenda Williams, some of the characters show both ethical and unethical issues. Even though both Joan and Harold are active and hardworking, they have unethical issues too. For instance, Joan signed payment vouchers without counterchecking leading to employees over expenditure. Also, Harold violated the company’s policy by travelling in first class and Porsche despite the company’s rules on air tickets and Chevy Luminas. I think it is mandatory for all employees to respect the company’s policy despite their managerial positions. Harold and Joan ought to have high accountability, and integrity.
In conclusion, all stakeholders of any business should show high ethical levels. Besides, all ethical executives ought to be loyal and trustworthy to their employees and their decisions should not be sabotaged. If I were Brenda, I would approach Joan and explain what had transpired between Harold and I. I would also defend myself using the policies of the institution against the allegations of misconduct. Moreover, since managing the funds was my department in the institution, I would question the illegal spending of Harold using the right channel.
