Rendering and Costume Design
I would seek to provide my audience with a proper visual support of the play to reveal the context, and concept of the play. I will achieve this through proper rendering techniques and costumed design. I would ensure that each actors costume reflects on their social status. The show will be set in a vintage era, and this will be evident from the actor’s costumes.
The miler’s daughters costume would constitute peasant blouses, lace dresses, and embroidered corsets. I want the miller’s daughter’s costume to be a peasant cream shirt with a long lace dress and sandals, while she’s spinning the straw into gold. After being crowned Queen, her costume would change to rich maroon robes. Her jewelry accessory would also increase from necklaces, bangles and a tiara. The king’s costume would include fur and velvets of vibrant colors like purple, red and gold. The king would have a gold necklace around his neck every time he would appear onset. The king would wear long frock coats to portray his dictatorship attitude. Rumpelstiltskin’s costume would be a dirty, ragged brown coat with a black belt tied on his waist. He would wear shorts, but the shorts would be hidden by the cloak. He would have a black pointy magician hat. He would have bear feet while appearing on set. The miller’s costume would be a simple patched up coat.
I vision the costumes to be rendered by soft wares and computer-aided sketches. The selection of appropriate colors would be by painting the drawings with watercolors to get a feeling of the effectiveness of the colors. The lighting would also be considered when selecting the appropriate costume. The different costumes designs will be discussed by people on set to arrive at the final proper design.
