Serving vulnerable population
JK is an old African American lady who has been diagnosed with hypertension and asthma. She lives in Benzie County, Michigan, which is a food desert area, and transport system is not developed due to poor infrastructure (Testa et al, 2018). Her family members are not able to provide the required daily care. As a community health nurse in JK’s service and I prepared a one week budget for her appropriate food (Testa et al, 2018). Healthy meals should have a high fiber-carbohydrate percentage.
The approximated amount for JK’s meals per week is $ 42.5. The nearby shopping location where JK can purchase her foods is Grey Ghost Eatery, which is 2 miles north from the homestead (Testa et al, 2018). Due to lack of reliable means of transport, I use Uber cab whose charges are $ 4 for one way (Stevens et al, 2013). To cut on the transport expenses, I choose to buy what is required for the three meals a day and take it in the morning of every day.
In conclusion, JK will have to undertake physical exercise like recreational sports which will assist in restoring the carbohydrate metabolism to its normal state (Testa et al, 2018). JK belongs to a small community in Benzie County (Stevens et al, 2013). The community is among the poorest in the county, and the smallest among all. Its population is very small compared to other large communities in our county.
