Film Response

Which moments seem to go by quickly, and which ones feel the longest?

A moment is a series of shots in film making. In the short film ‘Corto,’ there were cinematic moments that passed by quickly such as the beheading of the victims’ heads, movement of the conveyor belt and the ticking of the clock until it reached the man’s tea break. The man’s tea break was a long moment because there was gradual action of the man’s movement from taking his tea, lighting up a cigarette, and reading a newspaper.

Give a reason that you think caused the editor to speed up or slow down the experience of the moments.

A possible reason that the editor speeded up the moments mentioned above was to imply a repetition of an activity and also to break the monotony. On the other hand, the editor slowed down some moments to bring out an idea of emphasis and to create suspense to the viewers.

Which of the shots last the longest?

Shots are a series of frames that usually run without interruptions for some time. In the clip ‘Corto,’ there are extreme close-up shots last longer as compared to other shots. This is seen in the film whereby the man with an apron looks at the victims he is murdering for quite some time before chopping their heads off. This shot lasts longer towards the end of the film, whereby the victim stares at the man with sympathy. The man stares back at him and lifts the guillotine after looking at the clock on the wall. This shot lasts for a while until a bell rings and the man beheads the victim.

What fills the frame for the most extended shots in the shot selection?

Shot selections are angles that are responsible for bringing out a desired type of view while a frame is a still image that is used to imply movement in film making. The man with an apron fills the frame for the longest shots. Apart from him, the guillotine, the conveyer belt, and the clock also fill the frames for the most extended shots.
