Job Safety Analysis Task

Changing Tires

  1. Identify a safe location

The moment one realizes that the tire is flat, the first thing is to find a safe place away from traffic. You must never turn abruptly or brake at the point of realization as this may result in an accident. Decrease the speed of the vehicle slowly as you look around for a level and straight stretch of the road with a wide shoulder. A perfect place would be an empty parking lot. An empty parking lot would be an ideal place. A level platform is convenient as it hinders the vehicle from rolling over. It should be a straight road since this enables the other traffic users to see you. It is a safety hazard to attempt changing tires on a narrow shoulder while there are many vehicles passing. Instead drive on until you arrive at a safe place to change the tire. One may argue that driving on a flat tire damages the rim. This is, however, safer than getting involved in an accident. Continuously, consult with the owner’s manual to ensure the steps of changing the tire are followed to the letter.

  1. Turn on your hazard

The hazard lights are important in avoiding accidents as they enable the drivers to see you.

It hiders the vehicle from rolling over.

  1. Apply wheel wedges

When fixing the rear tire, place them at the front of the front tires and when fixing the front tires place them behind the rear tires. This ensures the car does not roll over when fixing it.

  1. Remove the wheel cover
  2. Loosen the lug nuts
  3. Put the jack beneath the vehicle

The jack is placed under the car’s frame along the tire that you are fixing and use it to lift it. As a precaution put a piece of wood beside the jack to prevent the car from caving under the weight of the vehicle.

  1. Unscrew the lug nuts completely.
  2. Detach the flat tire.
  3. Pin the spare tire on the lug bolts
  4. Tighten the lug nuts by hand
  5. Lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts once more using the wrench.
