Analysis of Fahrenheit 451
In my opinion Captain Beatty in Fahrenheit 451 hates books because he regrets the life he lost when he read books. He becomes a man filled with hate because according to him he cannot enjoy life anymore since he is not allowed to read books. The kind of harsh, angry talk that he exhibits throughout the book is typical of the frustration of someone who has given up on something he treasures and copes with it by turning his love for books into hate. This is an odd way of dealing with the feeling of loss, and ultimately it catches up with him. When Montag is forced to burn his house, he turns the fire to Captain Beatty who does nothing to escape the fire. It is evident that he saw no reason to live if he could no longer read the books he loved so much.
The future envisioned by the book Fahrenheit 451 is entirely plausible. It only takes the opinion of a president or authority figure who is obsessed with censorship and a few leaders to support the idea, and then censorship would be put in place. By banning the reading of books Captain Beatty impose censorship which is quite rampant in the society in one form or another. It could be censorship in the way of preventing other kinds of information apart from books. In some countries, some types of media such as social media and the internet are heavily censored, and the government strictly controls the kind of information their citizens have access to. This is meant to prevent the enlightenment of the people which could lead to the toppling of such oppressive regimes. The only to remain in power is through censorship to prevent citizens from being awakened to the power of numbers they possess.
