Almond Milk

Introduction

Almond milk is a little watery non-dairy milk, which is available in most shopping malls, and small shops. Other non-diary milk includes but not limited to soy milk, coconut, rice, and oat milk. As the name suggests, almond milk is from almond. Almonds are rich in protein, and healthy fats. Any natural fat is considered the safest for human consumption since they are free from chronic ailments. According to nutritional experts, almond milk is becoming the best non-diary milk. This type of milk is made by pulverizing several almonds in a blender with water, after which the product is strained to remove the sediments. The milk can also be obtained by just adding water to almond butter. The milk has a pleasant flavor, and creamy in appearance like the regular milk. For those who allergic or even intolerant to dairy, almond milk offers the best alternative solution. Almond milk meant for commercial purposes are stuffed with different flavors, and comes in a variety of brands. These brands are enriched with the most useful vitamins, proteins, and minerals; thus almond milk is the best milk of all due to its fulfilling natural nutritional contents as opposed to the allegations.

Almond milk is low in fats, proteins, and calories in their most accurate proportions making it the most adorable for stuff like smoothies. It is a fact that while most people do not consider the nutritional contents at the back of these packages, some usually do read the percentages (Gambert, 16). The world in which we live today is full of chronic illness because of excessive fats, and calorie intakes (Sethi, 12). Almond milk only contains 19 percent of natural protein a person may get from the soy milk, and only 17 percent of what you get from the low-fat milk. The unsweetened almond milk per cup contains zero sugar, 3 g fat, 1.5 g protein, and 39 calories. The breakdown for the popular dairy milk has 123 calories, 4 g fat, 8 g protein, and 12.4 g sugar. The nutritional breakdown suggests almond is the best milk product for human consumption (Summo, 48). Almonds are rich in protein but are different when turned into milk. Nevertheless, some milk products from almond are fortified, meaning they have added proteins get achieve satiating strength. All the above contents are labelled appropriately on the almond packages.

Almond milk does not propagate heart disease. The milk instead reduces the risk of contracting heart diseases. Studies reveal that regular consumption of nuts reduces the risk of heart diseases. Almond milk is 90 percent unsaturated meaning it is only 1 percent oil by weight (Gambert, 34). Besides, almonds contain oleic acid, which is highly linked with the good changes in the blood lipids. In a separate study conducted in the US using healthy adults, eating almond oil daily for one month reduced the harmful levels of cholesterol in them by an average of 6 percent (Gambert, 18). The consumption of almond for the same period also increased the good cholesterol levels by 6 percent (Stall, 15). These changes in the blood lipid profile are linked to reduced chronic diseases. According to the nutritional agents for the product, the lawsuit’s claims are invalidated because almost 50 percent of the calories come from fats, but they are generally low-fat products with no significance on the blood lipid.

Enriched almond milk is high in vitamin D as opposed to the claims that the vitamin D content of almond is questionable for children. Many people are deficient of vitamin D, and they risk improper bone development. The manufactures of almond milk considered this gap, and produced almond milk with added vitamin D (Summo, 47). One cup of almond milk may contain up to 2.4 milligrams of vitamin D, which is about 20 percent of the recommended dietary intake. Additionally, there were claims that almond milk is not good for individuals who do not like processed food products. Forget about the processed dairy products, which must be refrigerated to expand their life span (Gambert, 35). The good news is that almond milk can be naturally prepared from home. As mentioned before, all you need is a blender, a cup of almonds, and water. First, remove the skin by soaking the almond in water for close to eleven hours. The skin will then peel off easily when you rinse the almond then blend, and filter off the sediments.

The lawsuits in California refuted the packaging information of almond, claiming the milk is full of additives, and sweeteners with small almond portions. Processed almond milk contains almond as the principal ingredient, and in large quantities. The Blue Diamond, and WhiteWave Foods in Denver among other processors follow the laid down ethics, which put human life in the forefront. These companies, just like other almond processing firms use large quantities of almond for the production process (Gambert, 34). In response to the pending litigations in Denver, the Blue Diamond spokesperson mentioned that Almond Breeze (a type of almond milk), is made from an average of 60 almonds per gallon (Gambert, 40). The spokesperson asserted further that the balance for their recipe is purified water, and other quality ingredients in low portions (Sethi, 14). The manufacturers of almond milk could not attest to the claims their products are much sweetened. From the nutritional advisers at almond, it is a fact that unsweetened almond milk does not raise blood sugar. This information is what informs the production processes of almond milk.

Conclusion

American society must now be made aware of the frivolous lawsuits. Lawsuits against top manufacturers in the American market have become a trend. Nearly 100 class-action lawsuits have been filed by lawyers, and small group plaintiffs in the past decade. Apparently, all these lawsuits target food manufacturers with more than half filed in the Denver courts. But because the food-makers cannot refute all these claims, there is a need for increased vigilance in the production phases. Food is a sensitive area in any society, and the manufacturers must always adhere to the set quality standards while manufacturing the goods. The legal system in the US must also demand in-depth laboratory analysis from such lawsuits so that it is done on the interests of the plaintiffs. Such lab reports will take back the manufacturers to the drawing board so that they produce quality products. The consumers are also encouraged to read the packages carefully, and understand the contents before any misleading information surfaces on the media. For the case of almond, the manufacturers have the best interest of the consumer, and hence produce quality almond milk.
