Each of the major sociological paradigms offers a unique perspective on social life. As emerging sociologists, you will begin to recognize that there are several issues in contemporary society that can be explained and even solved using the different sociological paradigms. Your task for the first writing assignment is to pick one of the following topics Substance abuse Homelessness Crime Gender Inequality Racial/Ethnic Inequality Divorce Same-sex marriages After you have decided which topic interests you, you will then describe in detail how THREE of the major paradigms would view your particular topic. In your write-up, you will also consider how each of the three paradigms you have selected might “solve” the controversies and problems that are often associated with your topic. Finally, you will consider which paradigm you think best reflects the social issue you have selected. Be sure to justify your reasoning and consider the possibility that more than one perspective may be needed. Your assignment will not exceed 5 pages, double-spaced, using 12-pt. font.
