Reflections in Interprofessional (IP) Care
Reflection Assignment Information
Assignment Description:
The six professions of allopathic medicine, osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, nursing and public health have come together to support interprofessional education (IPE). Many accrediting bodies have altered their accreditation standards to include required IPE.
The intent of this assignment is to provide a high impact/low burden interprofessional educational (IPE) experience that enables students to understand and reflect upon the importance and process of inter-professional care regardless of what other health professions students are present in the setting. It has been decided that in obtaining a medical, pharmacy, and dental education at LECOM, every student will experience IPE. This assignment is designed to allow each student, regardless of his or her pathway or location, the opportunity to embrace effective IPE and to develop elements of competence in the four Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) domains.
In this assignment, using the Interprofessional Education Collaborative (IPEC) “Core Competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice Update 2016” as a foundational and required reading, students will learn about the roles and responsibilities of others and how to collaborate to achieve the best care for the patient, understand values and ethics and how to address barriers, and learn the importance of ongoing interprofessional communication in a professional practice.[unique_solution]
