Importance of Infection Control
Infection control is associated with the prevention of health-care related infections. Even though infection control is essential in the healthcare system, it is always under-recognized, and little attention is given to the profession. The application of infection control takes place within the health care facilities and not the entire community. Infection control is necessary because the health of the patients in the facility is the responsibility of the health officers tasked with taking care of them.
Individuals who have been trained on infection control use their skills to avoid health extremes in the health care facilities. The individuals assume full responsibility of maintaining the health of the patients under check (Torres et al. 2017). The burden of infection control officers is to prevent the spread of disease-causing pathogens from one point to the other inside the health facility. The spread of disease-causing organisms can be caused by careless handling of patients or lack of proper protective clothing when dealing with patients. In addition to preventing the spread of disease-causing organisms, infection control helps in protecting employees and clients from infections.
The health facility is always a busy stage for clients seeking medication, or even employees performing different tasks (Segreti, et al. 2017). Infection control comes in to protect the clients and any other individuals in the facility from infections that could be contracted within the premises of the health facility. The infection control officers are capable of applying their skills to help in protecting individuals from infections.
In sum, infection control is vital in the health care system because the health care facility is trusted with the protection and maintenance of health. Preventing the spread of disease-causing organisms and protecting individuals in the facility are among the importance of infection control.
