Reflection Guidelines
15 points per reflection
DUE: Weekly, Wednesday by 11:59 pm
Reflections are critical thinking exercises. A reflection presents individual insight, opinion, and/or observation in reaction to an idea or presented topic (such as a guest speaker). Reflections can quote sources, but it should be mostly your analysis of the information provided.
Introduction to Urban Studies invites guest speakers in the field to share their work and expertise with students. Active listening is important during guest speaker presentations. Guest speakers are not required to have a PowerPoint, but many do. Guest speaker PowerPoint presentations are available on Blackboard when speaker provided. Audio MP4 recordings of guest speaker talks will also be posted to Blackboard.
Use the points below to compose a 250-word reflection of guest speaker talks and presentations. You may include more details, but the following points must be addressed in your reflection.[unique_solution]
- Begin your reflection with the name of the speaker, their position/title, and the organization they represent
- Summarize the main topic of the speaker’s presentation
- State at least three facts or examples about the main topic from the presentation
- Were any of the facts or examples new information to you? Which one(s)?
- After hearing this presentation, what questions do you have or what would you like to know more about?
- Did this presentation connect to your academic major, other classes, extra-curricular activities, employment, or relate to your own community?
- Must conclude your reflection with statements about how this topic relates to urban studies. Specifically what topic you have learned this week. Required to tie in class readings, PowerPoint Presentations, web links, videos, etc. Properly cite (APA format) sources you use.
Reflections should be written in complete sentences, paragraph format, using correct grammar, spelling, and English writing conventions. Be sure to have header in your Word document that includes a title, your name, date, and class information. Must type in 12 point, Times New Roman, use 1 inch margins, double space, have paragraph indentations, use APA citations, and be around 250 words.
Reflections should be prepared as Microsoft Word .doc file and uploaded to the provided assignment links on Blackboard. Name word document “Your First name Last name Reflection for Guest Speaker Name”. Naming of Word document example “Amelia Caldwell Reflection for Dr Robert Gleeson.doc”
