4 Discussion
Use this space to write the Discussion/Explanation in Task 6.
The discussion section is used to analyse and interpret the information presented in the results section. The Discussion should briefly describe the important theory and concepts related to this lab. Use relevant theory and equations, and state any justifiable assumptions you are making. The detailed steps of deriving formula for explaining the observed difference should be provided. It should compare measured results with those expected.
- Compare expected results from theory or previously conducted experiments with those you obtained
- Analyse experimental error: This is very important.
- Analyse the strengths and limitations of the experiment.
- How can the results you obtained in the lab be applied to real work scenarios?
It is here you demonstrate your understanding of the experiment beyond the simple level of completing it. An analytical mind and critical thinking will help you write a good discussion, which makes sense, and will make an impact on the reader/assessor.

It summarizes the data, calculated results and the main finding. This is a concise review of what has been deduced from the work conducted. It is a summary of the points raised in the results and discussion sections. Can be very short in most undergraduate laboratories but should be logical and meaningful. No new information should be given in the conclusion. It should include
- Did you achieve the objectives and goals?
- What is the overall confidence you place on the results (error and uncertainty)?
