Authors define professionalism as an image that will promote a successful relationship between professionals and their clients. The way you dress is a reflection of how you view and value your work. Professional appearance should not be presented only during the job interview, but it should also be carried on every day of your carrier as a professional. Dressing code helps others to rate the company where you work. Different business settings have different dressing codes depending on the kind of work been carried out in a particular business setting. For instance, the dressing code of professionals working at a construction site is not the same as the dressing code of professionals working at a hospital or professionals working in an accounting office. Gender is also another factor which by minimal amount determines a professional appearance for a given profession. Personal hygiene is another critical factor which significantly contributes to professional presentation. Cleanliness ensures that a professional is always neat and smart therefore suitable for the person’s chosen career. Grooming is also essential to professionalism appearance just like clothes are. This means that regular washing and styling of hair should be done. In some business settings, one can be required to cover tattoos or remove piercings as part of dressing code of that particular profession. In this paper, professionalism appearance in the medical field is discussed.
Over the years, professionalism in the health care sector has had several definitions. One standard definition of professionalism in the medical field is proper appearance and essential conversation which can create a successful relationship between the health care provider and the patient (Brosky, 2003). Physicians should dress attractively to the patients as this helps the patients feel free and confident to disclose their symptoms to the physicians. Furthermore, the study has shown that patients prefer how physicians used to dress in the past to how modern physicians in modern dresses. The preferable outfit for male physicians is a white coat, shirt and tie. The most desirable gear for a female physician is a white jacket, skirt, and a dark wool shirt. A carefully dressed physicians can portray to the patient that the physician is organized and wise hence boosting the confidence of the patient towards the healthcare provider. On the other hand, the unkempt appearance of a physician can portray to the patient that the physician is disorganized and has an uncaring attitude.
Dental healthcare providers should be well behaved and always appear professional. Patients prefer the formal dressing of the dental care providers of a white coat. For the dentist, their physical appearance and the dressing attire affect the anxiety levels of the patients. The first impression of dental care providers determines the confidence levels of the patients. Dental care professionals should always be neat with well-styled hair to boost the confidence of their patients. For the dentists, they should avoid wearing piercings because the piercings will make the patients feel uncomfortable hence losing confidence in their dentists.

Physical presence has a great effect upon to first impressions and interpersonal relationships.
