Case Summary
ASSIGNMENT Write a short essay that provides a summary of the following case Malette v Shulman (1990), 72 OR (2d) 417, 67 DLR (4th) 321 (CA). Your essay should include the following elements: Introduction (2 marks) Provide an introduction that identifies the following information: Identify the name of the case you will be discussing in the essay. (Your first footnote should include a complete and correct citation for the case). Provide a brief ‘road map’ to the essay – in other words identify the topics your essay will address II. Summary of the Malette v Shulman case Provide a summary of the Malette v Shulman case by addressing the following topics: 1. (In other words, identify the specific legal answer to the legal issues in the case). Identify the remedy granted by the court. 5. Judicial Reasoning (5 marks) Provide a summary of the most important reasons given by the majority to support the decision in the case. IV. Conclusion (2 marks) Provide a short conclusion to your essay that identifies the main points in your summary. Note: Quality of writing and citations (3 marks) Length: Your Case Summary should be no more than 1000 words long (approximately 4 pages). Footnotes are not included in the word count.
