Tuesdays with Morrie review
So what is really the meaning and the purpose of life? One of the crucial things Professor Morrie Schwartz passed to his former student Mitch Albom in regard to life was: “once you learn how to die, you learn how to live.” In this “Tuesdays with Morrie,” we get to understand life, death and everything taking place there between the two. Morrie had a chance to walk that final bridge between the two and narrates the trip.
“Tuesdays with Morrie” is a very creative and a firsthand bibliography narrating the tale of friendship between one old professor, Morrie and his former student, Mitch. Back in the 70’s is when this student takes a like to this energetic sociology professor when he attended Brandeis University. Mitch took every class of Morrie and soon the two becomes great friends.
In every Tuesday the two great friends could meet and have a talk about life until Morrie graduates and becomes totally engrossed in the world full of vanity. 20 years down the line, now the award-winning sportswriter, Mitch realizes that the old professor is dying after he saw a nightline episode featuring him. Mitch renews his college behavior and begins visiting the old professor.
In this inspirational life account of Morrie, he falls in love with Morrie’s humor and his personality which is a fun. Despite of Morrie being an old man, he likes dancing and appreciates totally the small this which will always be taken for granted by many people. After being diagnosed with Amyotrophic lateral Sclerosis, he makes it a mission to make the most out of his remaining days to lie.
Resolute not to give ALS a room to deter his life, Morrie remains independent until his death. He continues to life his life to the fullest to an extend of even hosting his own “living funeral” with an aim of hearing what the people would say at the funeral while he was alive. “the culture we have does not make people feel good about themselves” Morrie said
Morrie can be seen as a force of nature; making people feel good about themselves. He makes people have a deep look within their lives and realize the worth and importance of spreading joy and happiness. Although Mitch is ambitious and hardworking, he is distracted by bad things he encounters such as work, success and fame. Morrie impacts the knowledge of the life value in all the aspects. “The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in,” Morrie reminds Mitch. Together, Mitch and Morrie discuss death, fear, aging, greed, marriage, family, society, forgiveness, meaningful life.
These life lessons clearly leave any reader to reflect on his/ her life and could even extend to help anybody struggling to find the meaning of life and its purpose. Right from the word go, any ready knows that Morrie is dying, but this does not prepare for the cold morning of Saturday when he is gone
