SMART Goal essay
Introduction
Personal goals are the leading factors of success in individuals, and especially students. For goals to be realized, there is the need for students to develop a comprehensive SMART goal planner. “SMART” is an acronym from Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely goal. Every goal needs a plan of action accompanied by competency skills. The core competencies, which connect to my goal include academic skills, finances, and college future. Each of these competencies is valuable for my college success. The academic abilities will enable me to excel in my discipline, and attain the required aggregate points, while the finances, and the college future are important for my continued stay at the college. My SMART goal is to expand my knowledge, and skills on what I need to do, and how to do it to succeed in college as well as outside college
Academic skill is a mandatory requirement for a college student without, which, it is meaningless staying in college. I will achieve my academic skills by first evaluating my strengths, and weaknesses in the various discipline I pursue. I will then develop a robust time management system, and stay on top of my assignments. I recognize the importance of the team in sharpening my academic skills. I will engage a study partner in each of my classes, and take advantage of the campus resources such as the library.
Finances are crucial to realizing my goals. Adequate funds will enable me to settle my unpaid fee balances. As a result, I will be to attend all my class schedules as required. Finances eliminate unnecessary frustrations, which come because of getting broke. When I have finances, I have all the basic needs. Therefore, I will be able to develop my study plan, and avoid unnecessary hustles at the expense of my classwork.
A good college develops comprehensive plans for its students, and graduates. College future can thus be gauged from the success of its previous graduates or its exemplary performance in innovation, and research. A good college future will get me focused on me, and whenever I walk around, I will be reminded that I need to work not only hard but also smart. An achievable goal requires an ambient environment with a good culture of persistence, and determination.
My SMART goal is Specific. To expand my knowledge, and skills on the things I need to do, and the methods of doing them, which will eventually bring about high-class concentration, and hence success. Secondly, my goal is Measurable. I will use the knowledge in my future career. I have set an Attainable goal, which is achievable by attending my classes, and giving attention to the tutors, and instructor. By paying attention, I will be able to interact with the instructors during the course when necessary.
I have a relevant goal even though it may seem difficult to achieve due to my high school academic records. The relevance of this goal will keep me going and be persistent in the whole semester. By the end of my career training, I shall have achieved my goal because it is timely.
Conclusion
I have a SMART goal, which is to expand my knowledge, and skills on what I need to do, and how to do it to succeed in college as well as outside College. The goal is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and timely, hence SMART, and it will help further my skills. Self-evaluation on the strengths, and weaknesses helps in determining how best a student can develop academic skills. The future success depends on how best you know yourself, what you can, and what you cannot do, and this is the basis of self-evaluation.
