Drug and substance use
Drug and substance use refers to when an individual takes illegal drugs such as marijuana and cocaine or rather when one uses prescription medicine in a wrong way. The New York University is therefore committed in ensuring an illegal drug free environment for educational excellence. Abuse of drugs by the student has impacts on one’s health. Long term impacts maybe damage of liver, kidney, pancreases, nutritional defencies, problem of the memory and fatal damage. Moreover, short term impacts of drug abuse may include; increased aggression, risk death due to overdose, poor motor coordination and emotional instability. (Tuchman, E. 2010).
New York university has come up with solutions to help the students in the aim to stop the drug and the substance abuse. Firstly, to conduct the education on the effects of drug abuse to its student. Setting up of policies that must be adhered to by all the students concerning consumption and distribution of drugs within the school. Also ensuring that those seeking for information on substance abuse are provided with resources. Moreover, the university has come up with manner to address drug abuse allegations and policy violations. (Straussner, S. L. A. &Ed 2002). Displinary actions are also going to be taken to staff or any member of faculty found to be misusing drugs in the school premise
