My dream of being a Physical Therapist

I am Priscilla Pickett, and being a Physical Therapist has been my lifelong dream. The ability of therapists to restore functional mobility and improve overall quality-of-life, giving individuals back their hopes to reach their personal goals, makes this profession exciting and meets my wishes of helping humanity and as a means to giving back to the community.

In the process of commitment to attain my objectives aimed at making the profession a better platform, I have demonstrated my efforts through participating in community services. I worked with Holmes Community College, where my primary duty was picking up trash around the city of Goodman, MS. while serving at Premeir Rehab in koscuisko, MS facility. In other circumstances, I participate in a community church where I assist in engaging children as a means of helping the community.

The experience at Premeir Rehab in koscuisko, MS facility, has contributed much to my abilities as a professional. Working along with experienced professionals, observing how they interact with young, old, bariatric, and emancipated clients, enriched me with the skills and abilities required to serve as a physical therapist assistant. It also showed me how important it is when you put a smile on an individual’s face by restoring their hopes in their lives, a motivating factor that makes me consider this course as the best profession. Since I was not licensed to perform the tasks, I relied heavily on the facility therapist who showed me lots of activities involved in this noble profession. I was able to learn about stretches and other therapeutic exercises with gait belts, giant ball, dual-bar as well as other equipment aimed at helping with balance, stability, endurance, and strength on lower extremities. Seeing various patients struggling confirmed to me the need for more physical therapist assistants, and I wish to be among the individuals contributing to the wellbeing of these patients. The experience at the outpatient facility enlightened me on how important a critical injury is to treating it and getting the client who put their passion for care in these professional hands back to health. Being a busy institution, I acquired the skills of self-commitment for the wellbeing of the facility and community at large.

The working experience at Premeir Rehab in the koscuisko facility has also equipped me with knowledge on how to develop specific programs for each patient’s needs and the necessary documentations used to keep a record of rehab used, to reflect on improvement, and to provide legal records. The skills are vital for physical therapist assistants’ success.
