America’s new imperialism
The civil war between the US and the Soviet Union enabled the US to focus on development and stabilization of the nation also known as imperialism. Factors that motivated American imperialism included, political, geographic, economic and cultural (Reyna, 2005). First, the American wanted to attain political control and power, therefore imperialism facilitated political advancement. Secondly, through the expansion of the colonial power through the world America would gain trading partners and market. Therefore, it was prudent to advocate for imperialism. Third, American would gain from geographical expansion. America therefore focused on annexing Free states to increase their borders. Fourth, American went for imperialism purposes of cultural dominance.
While Americans were on the route of their, President Woodrow Wilson encouraged domestic and foreign progressive movements and reforms trade affairs. The popular policies included the Tariff reform that ensured there were lowered tariffs for traders; he also went against the protectionist lobby (Harnecker, 2016).
The most immediate cause of World war also known as Great war that lead to alliances, imperialism, militarism and nationalism was the successful assignation of Archduke Franz Ferdinand from Austria- Hungary (A. & Chitwood, 1918). The assassination led to Russia mobilization due to their alliances with Serbia. Germany declared war on Russia.
How did the reactionary conservatism during the 1920s manifest itself in social life and governmental policies?
The reactionary conservatives engaged in enforcing the immigration laws that were put forward by the progressives in 1920s. Notably, the conservatism addressed the need for affordable insurance terms which came with multiple benefits. It was possible for one to secure family’s income in their absence. The interest on social empowerment largely contributed to human capital. The reactionary conservatives also championed against discrimination among the marginalized communities thus promoting equality among the people.
