my perception on geography
Based on the video that I listened, the notes as well as the short paper that I have gone through, my perception on geography is that it refers to the study of various activities of humans and the impact of human activities on the physical features existing on the earth’s surface, on the surrounding, how resources are distributed and the political and economic activities that occur within the earth. The module holds that activities such as mining, transport, and farming have an impact on the environment. It also discusses physical features that include mountains, rivers, deserts and oceans and how they affect the surrounding. In addition, the human population distribution is influenced by the climatic change which is prompted by the activities of the human settlement within the areas surrounding water bodies. in instances of floods, the human property is destroyed while most of them are carried down the rivers for those staying near the water bodies. people lose their lives too thus a threat to human life.
In geography, there are several essential fields of study. One such field is the population distribution. In the reading materials offered, population distribution is described as how the human population is spread all over the world. Hence, it can refer to the knowledge of spatial distribution that implies the manner and reason that explains the difference of various things that are found on the earth’s surface. Hence, it explains the importance of geography such as enabling scholars to fully understand the cultural, physical, economic and demographic phenomena of humans living on the planet earth. This explains the essential elements that people gain through studying geography and what occurs in different laces within a specific time frame.
A geographer through gaining more knowledge on the discipline will have an insight into climatic changes across the globe. This will allow an individual to explain why there are different climatic changes across every region within the world and thus will be easily compared during climate change analysis. A geographer will understand temperature, and rainfall distribution of different regions and even compare their intensity. When studying geography an individual will be able to compare how severe the effects of climate change affect the world and its impacts such as the occurrences of El Nino, global warming and other disasters that might elicit the urge to practice conservation measures. Geography allows scholars to develop their professions and pursue careers such as Geospatial Technology that offer several opportunities for their growth. Studying geography will enable a scholar to interact more with people within the society, and engage with diverse individuals within the different regions and various environmental existences hence improving their social knowledge as well as environmental knowledge.
In addition, geography is essential in imparting learners with knowledge of land formation. It allows people to know the process that results in such features such as tectonics that occurs after crustal plates move on the surface of the earth. The effects of such movements affect the availability of water in rivers since the tectonic plates slide or move with each other thereby disrupt rivers. Through land formation, the environment is affected because the natural habitat is destroyed thus affecting animals causing their migration. Therefore, geography is important as it enables learners to understand the food chain between human s and animals and the mating process that leads to continuity.
