My love for electronics

My love for electronics blossomed at an early age of 8. I was playing with my father’s radio and ended up dismantling one of the buttons. Fearing the wrath of my father, I tried sticking it back; but alas, it did not work, and I got a good scolding, but with that came a curiosity on how other household things like clocks, watches, and my remote control cars work. Nurturing my inquisitiveness, I started participating in science exhibitions and reading books authored by eminent scientists and engineers. During one such science conclave, I witnessed a creative, constructive, and cordless way of communicating with others via a hand-held, portable, two-way radio transceiver, developed by one of my seniors. This working model of a walkie-talkie was the turning point of my life as I realized that in between science and technology, my calling lies in studying both hardware and software. My assiduous efforts culminated in my admission to the United College of Engineering & Research (UCER), affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Technical University, one of the finest engineering colleges in India.

My undergraduate curriculum at UCER Allahabad deepened my interest in communication devices and electronics through its coursework and project-based learning methods. The subjects that fascinated me the most were Satellite Communication, Communication System, Power System, Control System, Electromagnetic Field Theory, Signal and Systems, Microprocessor, Power Electronics, and Digital Electronics. Along with classroom learning, my professors provided me with numerous opportunities to transform that learning into real-world projects. In my final year, I designed and implemented a wideband software radio to support popular modulation schemes like AM, FM, SSB, and VSB.

My projects along with my beyond-the-curriculum explorations such as Robotic War Competition at IIT Kanpur and IIT Delhi and 3D Animation Movie Making Contest at IIT Kanpur and several technical online Courses fromMIT OpenCourseWare (https://ocw.mit.edu/index.htm) and Edx (https://www.edx.org) like Software Construction in Java, Java Programming, Mobile Application Experience, Android App Development strengthened my practical know-how of software and hardware, and their role in designing electronic systems; thus making it easier for me to understand the internal process happening when an electronic device functions. This motivated me further and as a result I founded a robotics company ‘Robotin’ for training graduates and students for development of robots and conducting training session and college-level competitions. Apart from this, I was the founder and CEO of a start-up named ‘Shopify’ app, a Facebook funded (25 Lakh) initiative, which displayed the best price and deals in nearby malls, shops and local vendors. I am truly very proud to be part of these two distinct ventures that have unleashed my potential and allowed me to explore my mental faculties to the fullest.

Supporting my academic accomplishments will be the presentation and research skills I enhanced during my varied conferences and seminar presentations. Chief amongst these were my technical paper presentation on ‘Magnetic Levitation and Transformation of the Modern Rail System’ at Techkriti 2012, IIT Kanpur where, I presented the idea of applying the concept of magnetic suspension in modern transportation systems as it promises low fuel consumption, faster speed, notable passenger safety, and eco-friendly technology. This seminar accorded me insights into the fundamental approach towards research and technical writing. My communicational skills along with public speaking skills burgeoned, and I was appreciated for my work, which gave me a tremendous sense of satisfaction.

Post Bachelor’s; I initiated my professional career with MagicBricks (A division of Times Internet Limited), as a Software Engineer. From the beginning, I was very passionate about learning new technologies and continuously expanded my knowledge base in understanding the architecture of client systems and the tools used by the company. My competence and interest in designing solutions to automate processes encouraged me to master various software applications such as Data Science (R, Python, Machine Learning, Tensor Flow,Sk-learn, keras, Core Java, C/C++, Android), and Data Warehousing (Unix Shell Scripting, Pl-SQL, Oracle SQL, Informatica Power Center).To maximize my abilities and perform above par, I assiduously studied and understood the intricacies involved in programming and cracked three of the most onerous certificate examinations namely Sun Microsystem (Java Developer), Oracle (SQL Developer), and Google (Android App Development) with flying colors. For me, these diplomas are not merely a piece of paper signed by some international authorities to portray my expertise to the world; for me they are the stepping stones that paved the way for my success at Cognizant Technology Solution (Joined after MagicBricks) and I can proudly say that over the past 4.5 years of my tenurein Cognizant Technology Solution, I have successfully automated several test cases to reduce manual efforts and investigated critical problems in the applications in insurance and retail domains. In the process, I not only sharpened my technical skills but also built a cordial relationship with clients by conveying my novel ideas and understanding their requirements in a lucid way. My diligent efforts were duly recognized at every step of my professional journey through awards, appreciations and two merit-based promotions at Cognizant Technology Solution which further boosted my confidence and strengthened my resolve to plunge deeper in the field and enhance my current skills and knowledge.

The course offers a wide range of core and specialist modules, allowing me to tailor-made my degree, and my specific interest lies in learning subjects like Robotics and Intelligent Sensors, Machine Vision, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Neural, And Fuzzy Systems, Computer Control System and Computer Networks. Rigorous and engaging classroom experience will not only impart knowledge of software tools and techniques like Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence but also provides me with an opportunity to cement it through practical applications of them. M.Eng program is the research-based program which provides a wide range of topics to research like Control system of a stair-climbing robot, Artificial Intelligence in Visual Search, Recognition and Retrieval, Deep Feature Representation and Learning Methods in Visual Analytics, Deep Learning in Visual Action Recognition and Event Detection, Artificial Intelligence in Visual Search, Recognition and Retrieval, Blockchain Supported Security Functionality for IoT Systems. Further, the research-intensive school hosts research centres and research institutes which are well-equipped with highly advanced instruments as well as state-of-the-art facilities to conduct and support advance research in the field of Electrical and Electronics.

If I could sum up my motivation to pursue a Master’s degree in one line, it would be the quote, by my role model and icon Booker T. Washington, ‘Success is to be measured not so much by the

position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which he has overcome’. This quote profoundly resonates with me, as it is

indicative of my perception towards education, the failures have I faced in life

and the opportunities I have seized. In a specific time period of my life, I

have faced hardships bound by health and financial constraints; however, these

humble beginnings have made me much stronger as I chose to fight back. A topper

in high school (Math score 100/100) and a State-Level Mathematics Olympiad

Winner at IIT-Kanpur- 2006, I couldn’t perform well in the engineering entrance

examination and became prone to Somatoform Disorder and Migraine attacks for 3

years (Mid of 2010- Mid of 2013). This adversity badly affected my grades till

the end of my 3rd year (till the end of 6th semester) in the college as I was

easily perturbed whenever there was chaos in my surroundings, which negatively

hampered my thought process and reduced my efficiency. Finally, I gave me the

self-assurance and will-power to fight against any atrocities by getting

devoted to meditation and yoga and could see a visible difference in my life. I

not only overcame my health issues but also worked hard to grab the on-campus

placement with one of the top-notch corporations of India. This was a small

beginning that gave rise to the burning desire of exposing every tensed,

worried, and stressed out adult to the wonders of meditation. Therefore, upon

gaining more than three years of intensive practical knowledge about a plethora

of advanced meditation techniques, including but not limited to mindfulness,

heartfulness, and ShudarshanKria, under the eminent guidance of spiritual

leaders, psychologists, and researchers- Dr. Rick Hanson (UCLA), Dalai Lama,

Cory Mascara(University of Pennsylvania), and Dan Ariely (Duke University) to

name a few, I started counselling and coaching students, employees, and people

suffering from depression, work/exam stress, and anxiety absolutely free of

cost. And it is a gratifying experience to see the overwhelming response of my

clients as I started with healing one member and soon, I found the number

growing to more than 1000. The experience was a learning curve for me as it

reminded me that I could achieve anything I set my mind upon, and thereafter, I

gave up on giving up. The biggest reward from the daily practice of meditation

and yoga is my confident, calm and cheerful attitude towards life which has not

only helped me deal with challenging situations peacefully but also improved my

focus and productivity tremendously.

After successfully completing the course, my immediate goal would be to pursue Ph.D. from your research-oriented university and work on my research in well-equipped laboratories. In the long run, I envision myself as a Professor in one of the prominent universities of the world, where I can share my knowledge with budding engineers, shaping their minds while simultaneously contributing to the field through contemporaneous research and studies.

Despite, my entire schooling was in regional language (Hindi Medium), and I did my entire schooling from a place where situations are like in Sahara, Africa (as claimed by United Nations), I tried my best to score well in the Verbal part of GRE. However, I could just score 137 marks. Having said so, I can assure you that, I do not have any issues in language and communication as validated by my 6.5 score in IELTS (no band less than 6). Hence, I believe that few grades are not sufficient to prove my competency and emphasis should be laid on my otherwise rich and strong profile while evaluating my candidature.
