Facility Selection and Research
Week Two: Designing a floor plan for an Outpatient Clinic
Outpatient clinic and its purpose in the health care industry
To design a floor plan for a healthcare facility, I have selected an outpatient clinic. From a healthcare point of view, an outpatient clinic is a section of a healthcare facility designed to treat people with medical problems through diagnosis and treatment without being admitted for overnight care (Payne, 2017). The primary purpose of an outpatient clinic in the health care industry is to offer treatment services to patients with minor injuries via minor surgical procedures and diagnostic tests. Besides, an outpatient clinic offers services of wellness and prevention like weight-loss management and counseling programs (Payne, 2017). The outpatient clinic performs a medical examination through diagnoses such as MRI, CT scans, and lab tests. Another purpose of the outpatient clinic is treatment via minor treatments, rehabilitation, and chemotherapy.
The Populations who use Outpatient Clinic
The primary users of the outpatient clinic include people with minor health problems and people who require medical examination procedures (Payne, 2017). Besides, people with medical insurance cover can select an outpatient clinic rather than a hospital if the services needed are provided.
Key Characteristics of Outpatient Clinic
The central characteristic of an outpatient clinic is that patients are not admitted for overnight care. Outpatient form part of a hospital or healthcare facility to care for minor health problems (Payne, 2017). Outpatient saber energyare spread in different areas such as outpatient surgery centers or medical offices.
Reasons for selecting this outpatient clinic
I selected an outpatient clinic for designing a floor plan because outpatient clinics deal with a large population daily (Hayward, 2016). Through outpatient clinics, it is easy to improve the quality of health care through the prevention of disease. I also selected outpatient clinics because they cost less and healthcare providers are highly trained. These factors improve patient outcomes.
