Although the leader can advise and give recommendations, the final decision should lie with the people. Every involvement with outside parties should also be transparent enough to whoever needs to have a look. This way, the leader will only serve the people.

The strengths include understanding that the people have their own interests too which must be rewarded as often as possible. The people will notice that with time, there is no change or even if there is, there is an intolerable amount of harm happening. Although there are times when the leaders can paint a certain image of things happening contrary to how they are in reality, this should not be often and real change should be taking place behind the scenes.

According to Rand, to be a successful leader means

To be a successful human being on the other hand, one has to get interests and indulge in them in such a manner that he will live a happy life. In many instances, the people have been guilt tripped into believing that they are not supposed to put themselves and their interests first as it was immoral. However, this is not true.

Indeed, the leaders that exist today would be effective if they avoided what Rand calls the morality of sacrifice. The reason is that the logic is flawed and adhering to it would not be effective in any case. According to Rand’s logic, people are often forced to sacrifice a lot such that where they were the givers, they position themselves to be the parasites and suckers. Because of this, they go on to continue fleecing the people as they will need more from them. Although it is true that this is often what happens, it does not necessarily have to be that way. On the contrary, a person who sacrifices often does not have to turn into a parasite. What is more, the needs of the leader and his position should be independent. As such, he would not have to sacrifice his personal things to give those in need.

One benefit of a leader whose self-interest comes first is that those who are around him will benefit as he will always want to have the feeling of appearing successful and caring. As such, those working in his home as well as those in other fields would receive generous rewards and bonuses in their job. One major weakness of a leader who acts for his own self interest is that he will never put into consideration the needs of others. To him, he is a chosen one and must thus get full benefits of ruling. A leader with selfish interests will also take as much of the property belonging to the state for his selfish purposes and reasons. This means he will be depriving the people of what is rightfully theirs.

Unlike Machiaveli, Rand believes that human nature is uniform and it is the circumstances that a person is in that determines these actions. She describes the basic requirements of a human being as those designed to help him feed, cloth and have a place to live. As such, every person could only get hungry but it is only after being denied the food that they can even steal. Machiaveli on the other hand believed that although some people were good and had genuine needs, they could have ill intentions and thus a leader should be wary.

Hobbes and Rand would have disagreed in some aspects. For one, Hobbes believed that every human being loved using their power over others but it is the fear of retaliation lets them opt to have an authority that makes these powers equal for the different parties. Rand on the other hand does not believe that the nature of people comes prescribed. Instead, it is their time in a certain environment that determines these characteristics. However, they would agree that people are inherently designed to be self-interested.
