Please share your opinion of what makes an effective organizational leader?
In my opinion, an effective leader is one who is good at planning organizing, directing and controlling activities within his or her jurisdiction. I want to emphasize that an effective leader must portray good communication skill because leadership planning organizing, directing and controlling requires excellent communication.
Explain your leadership style, do you have a dynamic personality with charisma that people naturally follow your direction or do you lead quietly and let your skills and knowledge persuade others to follow you?
I would say, I have a dynamic personality with charisma and my colleague workers follow my direction although I don’t dictate what they should do. I believe in the unity of purpose, so I take enough time to convince my people why we should do things in a certain way. Again, I don’t have a monopoly of ideas. I welcome everyone on board regardless of their position in the organization so that we can give our views and ideas. This leads to hard work and focus because we are doing what we all agreed to do. Mine is to ensure it is done as we had agreed.
Do you believe that leaders are born with natural leadership qualities or do you believe that anyone can be a leader?
I believe leaders are made. Anybody can become a leader if they go through a process of learning, observation and mentorship. Leadership is about skills, and these skills can be acquired by perception, training, practice and experience over a certain period. There no sufficient leader; a leader leans throughout his or her life. Good leaders are good learners, and they maximize every learning opportunity (Hyacinth, 2014).
From your past who has impressed you as a leader?
From my past, I was impressed by my high school principal. He offered high leadership qualities, and everybody loved him from the school staff to the students. Mr Ibrahim could give genuine compliments every time I performed well, and in case of failure, he could encourage and challenge me that I can do better. He was a generous man, a man who could say thank you and sorry when need be. He could keep his words, and he could follow up with students to know if they are contented with the services they are being offered. And most importantly, he could create forums for students to give their views about the school and what they think can be done to improve every learners’ academic life as well as the entire institution at large.
