The Innocent Delinquent
The sun sank lower in the sky as dusk was setting in giving way to the falling twilight as orange lights from the western horizon shone through leaves and building windows. At such times, the air became cooler as the unpleasant sounds from hooting cars and running engines melt in the dim evening light. But not today! Hooting Cars and police cruisers with blaring sirens were everywhere. People moved unevenly and uneasily, suggesting that something was wrong. Damn it! The Capitol building was under attack! Massive and subsequent explosions could be heard from the Capitol. All federal officials, including the President, his deputy, and congressmen and women, had convened in the building earlier in the day. It was a disaster! The sad news was confirmed with the official statement from the Secretary of State, “My fellow Americans, it is the darkest time in American History.” Deep sadness clearly covered his face, “An apocalyptic attack has just occurred at the Capitol building claiming the lives of the President, Deputy President, Cabinet Secretaries, Chief Justice, and speaker, all Congressmen and women, and state officials in attendance.” Within the bluest proclamation, there was a shred of hope, “Fortunately, one Cabinet Secretary did not attend the meeting. It is our formal duty as American people to install him in the Presidency with the immediate effect.”

Two weeks into the Presidency of Jean Scott and the main questions still remained fuzzy; “Who was behind the attack? Why?” Nobody had a pinch of a clue. Recovery was still going on as families and dignitaries surrounded the apocalyptic scene sobbing prayerful, hoping that the god of life may revive their perished relatives and friends. It became clearer day by day for the dark times to fade off and the country to continue, as usual, something nobody was ready for. The President had found a Deputy, Mr. Kenny Roberts, who is a business tycoon, and was on course in reviving the Congress. Since his appointment, Kenny seemed focused on helping President reestablish the nation and was highly inquisitive of every progress. Consistent efforts of the CIA to unravel the occurrences during the attack always allegedly pointed evidence to an extremist group based in Afghanistan. However, the real issue still remained, “How did they coordinate the attack?” Three months into the investigation, evidence began showing that the Deputy President had an interest in the attack. It was alleged that plans were underway to clear capitalism and install communism. Linking to his political career, Kenny has been a strong proposer of communism. Suspense and fear arose among the CIA officials, “could these allegations be true? If so, why did the President appoint him? Could the President be a culprit? With the evidence remaining clouded, the CIA resorted to keeping the government in the dark.

Given the intensifying suspense, the CIA has been secretly following the President and his Deputy. It is 9:05 pm. Thanks to tracking systems and cellphone surveillance, a familiar voice could be heard from the CIA sound projector; “I am making significant progress. It is just a matter of time, and I will tame the president and set the pace for a takeover… We cannot allow the world to thrive in capitalism. It is exploitative and has nothing to be appreciated for.” His intentions were clear, and the President had no option but to give him the pink slip.
