Malcolm X Biography
- According to Malcolm X and Haley, “The day was to come when our family was so poor that we would eat the hole of a doughnut” (6). In this statement, Malcolm X talks about the poor financial state they were in as a family after moving from the countryside to the town where they were able to get food and everything quickly. Irrespective of their poor financial state, they were better off compared to other black families around them. This shows that most of the black families were extremely poor. The statement shows the theme of poverty and family, and it is essential in the sense that it shows their struggles as a family.
- According to Malcolm X and Haley, “My mother was thirty-four years old now, with no husband, no provision or protector to take care of her eight children” (11).
