The Bitter Truth

The movie Chappie has a lot to say about the current and future society. The movie has managed to address the inhumanity that is there in the world and the world of Artificial intelligence In which we are headed, Even though the movie is fictional, the movie has a lot of themes explaining the nature of human rebellion. The movie exposes the bitter truth that no matter how much good is in society, there will always be terrible people who would want to fulfill their evil ambition using the good in society. It talks about the oppression of the people by the technology they have created and the rebellions that rise against future power in governance and the technology they use to oppress them. The movie has a fictional character Chappie who has managed to explore the theme of the painful truth about human beings. In the movie Chappie, the bitter truth is that people are terrible, and that is their nature. They do not care about anything else but themselves unless it is beneficial to them.

At the beginning of the movie, Things do not seem to work out very well for Chappie. The aspect of parenting plays a very significant role in showing how human beings some human beings are terrible. Parents play a huge role in the behavior of their children. What any parent teaches their children is most likely how the children will end up doing their things. The life of Chappie begins when he is learning how to do things on his own as a baby does. Despite Chappie having his reasoning and uniqueness, all the three parents that were involved in Chappie’s virtual childhood, influence what he becomes (Nuraeni 2017).

The primary focus of the theme of the bitter truth is on the two parents who kidnapped Deon and started teaching Chappie the gang life and how to become a gangster. The character that is played by Chappie is one in which a child is learning from the activities that their parents do. The bitter truth is that terrible people like Die and Antwoord do exist in society, and they will always have influence over the people that they are responsible for. Chappie is a creation of Deon, who takes him as his child. He creates a robot that can be able to think for itself and learn things like a human being. Die and Antwoord, take this technology by kidnapping Deon. They then use his technology for the benefit of themselves and to oppress other people as gangsters.

This shows that no matter how many good creations that human beings can come up with, there will always be terrible people who will have different motives, as seen in the two parents of Chappie. They do not even consider the fact that Chappie is learning how to become a human being. They only care about using Chappie as a weapon in achieving their evil ambitions. This eventually leads to the oppression of people who do not have the technology since most of them were victims of Chappie’s gangster life. The bitter truth is that there will always be terrible people who will use the innovations and creations of other people to their advantage at the expense of the rest of the society that was supposed to benefit from these creations and innovations.

One of the great quotes in the novel Irrational Man by William Barret is that ‘Life’s ironic isn’t it? One day a person has more complicated and unsolvable problems than in the batting of an eye, dark clouds part, and you can enjoy a decent life again. It’s just astounding. I’m Abe Lucas. I’ve had many experiences and now a unique one. This was the meaningful act I was searching for (Barrett 1958).” From this quote, we get that there are several experiences that people go through that cannot be used to define them since they are very complicated. In Chappie’s case, Chappie goes through a hard life where he is taught how to be a gangster and even lives that life. However, in the end, Chappie’s experiences change when his initial parent feels bad about Chappie’s gangster life and turns himself into a police bot to allow himself to re-enter his creation’s life to continue raising him as it was supposed to be in the beginning.

In life, people will always come up with new inventions that are for the good of society. A good example is an internet serves for the good of all people on earth. However, some terrible people come and use the internet for all the wrong reasons, such as cyberbullying, which is similar to what is happening in the movie Chappie. One of the things that will remain constant in human life is that terrible people and experiences will always be there. The only question that remains is, are we able to overcome these people and experiences, or are we just going to sit down and watch as they ruin everything humanity has brought us.
