Pros of civil war in USA

In almost a century between 1830-1916, following the civil war USA became an economic and industrial enormous. New industries got created as well as the old ones expanded. There was a development of immigration and urbanization, as many people from the southern state migrated to the urban centers (Finkelman et al.,2019). These industries recruited skilled and unskilled laborers due to the high demand that led to the production of high quantities of goods. These created employment to the netizens, thus improving their living standards. The technology revolution impacted the industries significantly as they adopted the use of machines replacing manpower, improving the quality and speed of producing goods. This industrial development triggered the agricultural sector as they relied on them for raw materials such as cotton, thus improving it[1]. The agriculture sector became the backbone of industrialization as more firms got set for growing cotton for export.

The construction of the railroad was a boost to economic growth as it linked various markets, giving farmers the ease to access the market to supply their goods. The rail was the cheapest means of transport, putting the confederacy in a great significance. The transportation industry in the northern state boomed following the war, where more rails got constructed to allow large trucks to transportation. The United States built a Military railroad that was used by the Union Forces from the south to fight. These rails carried troops to fight and other equipment. By the end of the civil war in the United States, rail transport was among the most extensive transportation system[2]. As the railroad linked remote areas to a market economy, new businesses were created in the cities as a cause of immigration of people to the cities. As the American industry grew dramatically, a nationwide network of railroads aided in the distribution of agricultural and finished goods all over. New technology inventions produced new products that were tailored to customers’ satisfaction, thus leading to mass production. Within the century, the American military got strengthened, thus becoming a superpower.

Also, in the Agriculture sector, it was developed during the civil war as foodstuffs were needed in large quantities to feed the army. After the federal government demanded pork to feed the military, it created an opportunity for pork’s market. Chicago grabbed the opportunity and become the main pork-packing center, processing more than two million hogs. Other new products that flooded the market due to demand were Electric bulbs, barbed wire, telephone, and typewriter. The technology revolution triggered the introduction[3]. The wealth in the south was of considerable significance to the economic growth as the prices of cotton were always high. The availability of cotton in the southern state was crucial to the world markets such as France and England as it attracted military and diplomatic assistance in time of need to make them remain victorious.

Most of the European Immigrants got attracted by the availability of free states in the mid of the 19^th century. (Post et al.,2019) says that about 75 of the foreign immigrants settled in the free states. As the North and south continued to mobilize for the war, free markets economic system became evident in the capability to back and withstand the economy. Industrialization unions and commercial volume boomed during the civil war. The North took advantage of its rapid industrialization to overpower the insurgency. Mobilization of the resources in the development of rails, factories, and manpower gave the confederacy a great significance.

The civil war opened an opportunity for women to get employed in various sectors of the industry who were willing to work for cheap wages. After the war ended women got invited to work in factories, mines and mills both skilled and unskilled as the labor was in high demand[4]. These led to a higher number of women recruited, reducing the rate of unemployed giving more power and opportunities to women. Women colleges were founded, and admitted women for education; the number of women in college went high such that by the eve 1800, even the male colleges admitted women.

During the war, more changes took place outside the battle line, especially when Lincoln got elected as the president in March 1861. Although the nation was much divided, he later put it in control after some democratic members left the congress; thus, Republicans dominated it. Lincoln used this opportunity with the congress to pass some laws that had languished the congress as a result of opposition from influential southerners[5]. (Witcher et al.,2019) believe that these legislations led a united and stable nation leading to a potential economic state dignified for an enormous and speedy steward development. The civil war opened a door for the northern state to establish an economic and industrial future for America. Some of the laws debated in the congress were to provide free title deeds up to 160 acres of undeveloped federal land outside the thirteen colonies to any person willing to live and farm the land. Other laws passed were to help industries develop and acquire better equipment, thus providing students with “industrial classes” opportunities.AS the war was on the congress passed bills than changed the American monetary system. This financial bill allowed the government to print paper money and use it to pay for its proposals, which boosted the economy.

In summing up, although the civil war in the United Stated led to Industrial and economic growth, it also had its challenges. But the advantages weighed the limitations. The construction of factories, mills, railroads, and improvement of the agriculture sector led to a more united and powerful state.
