Reversing Stigma Video Reflection
From the documentary “reversing the stigma,” there are various notes that a viewer can take home. The experience that drug addicts undergo through different stages depicts a general problem that many people suffer silently. There is a negative perception of them by society, which makes it hard for them to heal or resist this tendency. Hence, the victims have to put effort by themselves to counter the reality of drug and substance abuse. According to the New York State Office of Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Services (OASAS), persons going through this problem are seeking sobriety by all means (Anon, 2019). Besides, they are also pursuing to convince the society that they can change. Therefore, it is up to the community to accept them the way they are and assist them by all means.
The effort showcased where the Empire State is working to assist individuals in countering dependency is reminds the viewers that this process is possible. They should not generalize somewhat treat each case individually (Anon, 2019). Handling situations positively aid in aiding the solution process.
Additionally, the interviews in which some residents from New York are participants in the video prove that drug addiction is not an individual by the societal challenge (Anon, 2019). Some people have struggled with substance abuse in the form of emotional, mental, and physical frontlines (Anon, 2019). Most were able to overcome addiction and become useful people.
Hence, it is also possible for others to succeed in the same way. We have all it takes to become agents of change to victims of drug abuse. Those who have learned a lesson from their previous behaviors should help others.
