Introduction

Organized crime is a complex and centralized enterprise developed to engage in illegal activities. Groups are dealing with organized deals with the services and goods which are illegal, but they have a continued public demand. Such criminal syndicate is their primary source of income. Organized crime entails engaging in prohibited activities such as drugs, gambling, prostitution, and loan sharking. It is estimated that relatively 5000 established organized crime groups exist in different parts of the world (Corsino, 2013). In this piece of work, one will discuss human sex trafficking.

Human sex trafficking is viewed as a market-driven criminal industry that engages in sexual exploitation. The group works based on the principle of demand and supply in the commercial sex industry. As such, traders who engage in the business leads to an increase in the demand for commercial sex thus provide an incentive to the traffickers who ensure a constant supply of human for commercial sex purposes. Various scholars have viewed human sex trafficking as a form of contemporary slavery since most of the people who engage in commercial sexual acts are forced or coerced. Organized crimes based on sex trafficking target their victims frequently and utilize violence, bondage, or false promises or any other form of manipulation. Such mechanisms intend to keep their victims continuously involved in sexual activities while the traffickers earn profits. Sex traffickers use diverse and unique venues in their trade. For instance, most use fake businesses such as massage parlors, residential brothels strip clubs, motels, hotels, and escort services. Sex trafficking is viewed as a global problem that takes various forms. One of the most prolific and well known human sex trafficking is the “American Multibillion-dollar illicit massage industry” (Mucciolo et al., 2019).

The organization has been engaging in illicit activities for decades. The group has been soliciting for commercial sex acts in Florida spurs.  Due to its prominence and ties to sex trafficking, it drew national attention, thus leading to the arrest of its owner as well as hundreds of other men who were part of the group. The discovery led to raids of police officers to other places in which it is suspected it might be engaging in the human sex trafficking activities in the USA. Unfortunately, after a month of raids, the sex trafficking business has returned to its normal state in various spars.

Despite that police have been actively engaged in practices that can help eradicate human sex trafficking, it has been established that their efforts cannot be realized. Such has been caused by unknown information regarding the exact number of victims who are forced to engage in prohibited sex forced to work in massage parlors.  Regardless of that, methods of analysis and reporting concerning the subject matter have improved. In the USA, similarly to other parts of the world, the researchers and advocates highlight that sex trafficking issues is growing daily. For example, in the USA specifically, 90000 spas dealing with sex trafficking activities exist.

Scope of Human sex trafficking

Globally, it is estimated that 4 million people are victims of sex trafficking. According to International Labor Organizations, 1 million children and 3.8 million adults are victims of sexual exploitation. From the estimated 4 million, women and girls form 99% of those trafficked for sexual activities. USA, Philippines, and Mexico lead in the top three countries in the world as the nations of origin for sex trafficking. 70% of the people trafficked are from the Pacific region and Asia. However, the victims of sexually exploited individuals in the USA are from China and South Korea. The majority of the girls who were vulnerable to sexual exploitation are those who grew up in multiple homes. Profits from such activities are estimated at $99 billion worldwide (Merry, 2016).  Sex trafficking has been had to combat due to a few sex trafficking investigations. Also, the law only apprehends the victims rather than the people who forced them to engage in unlawful activities. For instance, during the raid in parlors and spars, forced commercial workers and child victims are arrested and judged.

Pros and cons of human sex trafficking

Human sex trafficking based on organized crime parameters have both advantages and disadvantages.  Those who are engaged in sexual exploitation are paid for the services offered. As such, the activity has been seen as a source of income. Such incomes have served the needs of the disadvantaged in society since the sexual exploitation income can be used to cater to family needs.  Nonetheless, some sexual exploitation has led to the development of sexual relationships and subsequent marriages. Human sex trafficking has also led to the development of legislation to curb the menace.  Regardless of that, human sex traffickers have various challenges. One of the main challenges with human sex trafficking is that it leads to the spread of venereal diseases. Human sex trafficking has led to an increase in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases in the world. Human sex trafficking has also led to an increase in crime visibility due to the revenues obtained. Such has led to an increase in the number of individuals who are looking for more victims.
