factors that undermined US neutrality during WWI and discuss how Wilson justified going to war

The essay that I am going with is number five. The United States of America remained a neutral power for much of the “Great War” of 1914-1918.  Yet, in April 1917, Woodrow Wilson called for a declaration of war.  Explain the factors that undermined US neutrality during WWI and discuss how Wilson justified going to war.  What role did the United States play in ending the war?

Woodrow Wilson proclaims the neutrality of the United States. Most Americans favored this position back in 1914. In February 1915, Germany announced unrestricted warfare against all ships that entered the war zone of Britain. President Wilson was not happy about it and the German government apologized and called it an unfortunate mistake. If I were president Wilson, I would find out who sunk my American vessel and make sure they knew they knew they were wrong and make their life miserable. I do not understand why the Germans would think to even sink one of Americas vessels and think they can get away with it.

Germany was the main problem that caused War. They would not stop sinking ships or backing down from any kind of war zone. It was revealed that the Lusitania was carrying about 173 tons of war munitions for Britain, which the Germans cited as further justification for the attack. Then Germany apologizes again and a month later a U- boat sunk an Italian liner without warning, killing 272 people, including 27 Americans. Wilson and the public opinion in the United States began to turn against Germany. They deserve to be treated this way and they should definitely go to War.

Once again Germany sank four more U.S merchant ships. Once this happened President Wilson appeared before Congress and called for a declaration of War against Germany. The Senate voted 82 to 6 to declare war against Germany. The House of Representatives endorsed the declaration by a vote of 373 to 50, then America formally entered World War 1. 14,000 U.S. infantry troops landed in France to begin training for combat. After four years of fighting a bloody war, the entrance of Americas well supplied forces into the major turning point in the war. When the War finally ended in November of 1918, more than 2 million American soldiers had served on the battlefields of Western Europe, and 50,000 men lost their lives. That is so sad to hear I could not imagine what kind of time that must have been. I couldn’t imagine being the President sending these men out to die. Its not a great history but those men will never be forgotten.

The United States had 4,355,000 military personnel involved in World War I. … The U.S. Navy played a major role in helping to blockade Germany, keeping out supplies and hurting Germany economically. The U.S. forces that were sent to Europe during World War I were called the American Expeditionary Forces. What saved the day? The Americans. The United States declared war on Germany in April 1917, drafted a million-man army (the A.E.F.) in the ensuing months, and deployed it hurriedly to France in the winter of 1917-18. In June 1918, the Germans brushed aside fifty French divisions and plunged as far as the Marne River, just fifty miles from Paris.

It is great to hear that the Americans saved the day. The Germans were getting out of control and we had to put a stop to it. When the United States entered the war, it was a huge help to the Allies. The American soldiers were rested and brought energy to the Allies. The spirit of the Allied soldiers improved significantly. Unites States industries produced much-needed supplies for the Allies. Military equipment and food were provided to assist the Allies in their fight against the Central Powers.

World War I was essentially at a stalemate until the United States entered the war. The entrance of the United States into the war gave the Allies the edge they needed to defeat the Central Powers.

The factors of the neutrality were on point, I say this because Germany was making it harder and harder for America. They kept messing with the ships and messed with other countries. World War 1 was definitely a history to remember and know what happened and how it all happened. The United States played a huge role in the whole thing. They came in and took care of what was needed to be taken care of. We did not have time for games, and we knew what we had to do when this was all happening. There were so many people who lost their lives during this time and it is so sad to think about. They definitely made history for the United States and they will always be known and brought up when this subject is being talked about.

When I was reading about World War 1 all I could think about is why Germany wanted to keep messing with the America vessels. They wanted this to happen and they thought they would win. America is so big and has all kinds of different weapons and ways to blow you up in a second. I just think about all of the lives that were lost and the family to those men. It was probably a very hard time for anybody that was in the War or knew about the War.
