            Colleges are now promoting their schools on television and are claiming that “This college can change your life”. These are not regular colleges; they are called for-profit colleges. For-profit schools are educational institutions that are corporations and most of the time have shareholders. They work together as a business and sell education. Their goal is to provide the best education possible, and by doing this it generates a profit for their shareholders. Though the commercial may say all these good things about for-profit colleges such as getting the highest level of education and other things, these colleges are taking advantage of people and need to be shut down as soon as possible. Due to them enrolling students in a schools they cannot afford, students tend to rack up dept, knowing they cannot pay it off it falls on tax payers to take the responsibility to pay it, and also training people to enroll these kids even though they know it’s wrong, just for theses colleges to put money in their pockets.

Without a doubt, for-profit colleges are taking advantage of many students by not having little to no requirement to go to a for-profit college many aim to go to these institutes even though the price is absurd “Steven Eisman has compared tuition in the for-profit college industry to subprime mortgages.” Subprime mortgages is a giant loan for a house with high interest and it was usually offered to people who were not finically stable to afford because they knew that they have a high chance of not repaying the money on time and charge them an absurd fee just to make money off them. This compares to for-profit colleges by how the price for these for-profit colleges are so high in cost and they know most of the students don’t have the money to pay to off but offer such a low standard to apply and enroll there.

In addition to students enrolling into for-profit colleges with little to no money that they own they’re racking up a huge amount of debt from the loans that are taken out by them. Even though student debt effects the person who chose to take out loans in the first place, it’s also affecting people who have nothing to do with this at all which is the taxpayers. “Student trying to improve their job prospects shouldn’t be duped into taking on crushing debt in exchange for the promise of a future job that will probably never materialize. And taxpayers shouldn’t be stuck holding the bag when these Faustian bargains inevitably go bad.” In other words, students are racking up a huge amount of debt for a job that they may not get and leaving the taxpayers with the burden to pay it off. While these for-profit colleges sit back and just take the money into their pockets.

Equally important, For-profit colleges know what they are doing. By purposefully sending recruiters to go out in lower class communities and aim for the people who have a big disadvantage. they give false promises so they can enroll them even though they know they would not succeed. “They are trained to play off emotion like fear and pain to convince people struggling personally and financially to enroll.” Not only that they aim after people who are at the disadvantage but they are trained to conceal emotions for the people the recruiters are enrolling. These recruiters know what exactly is happening but still do it anyways.

To add, for-profit colleges recruiters pushes some of these enrolled students to go to that college even though they’re not ready to. By creating a sense of urgency telling people to apply before it’s too late, there’s not many spots left of just plain advertising the college by saying great things about it even though there’s nothing good about it. “When students are enrolled through deception or fear, they are less prepared to meet challenges of colleges. These strong-arm, emotionally abusive tactics are all too typical of schools that have little to no interest of providing students the academic help and support they need for the students to succeed.” As showed students are basically forced to enroll at for-profit schools. Even though they’re not ready for college yet Recruiters use tactics to get these people to sign up and enroll to the school knowing they have little to no chance of even graduating from there.  Also, enrolling at a for-profit college it’s a Waste of time to many. The reason why is simple the credits the person earns at a for-profit college may not transfer with you to another college such as a university or community. “Paid 16,000 for an 8-month course in medical assisting. Upon nearing completion, the students learned that not only would their credits not transfer to any community or four-year college but also that their degree is not recognized by the American association for medical assistant. Hospitals refused to even interview graduates.” In simple words, students who went to a for-profit college spent so much money and wasted so much time to earn a degree that they cannot even used.

Overall, it may be said For-profit colleges are taking advantage of people just to pocket money for themselves. As shown for profit colleges to anything in their power to enroll people to their school just for them to make a profit from them. by putting no requirements to enroll and having tuition extremely high it causes students to rack up debt very quick and forces taxpayers to pay off the debt in other words these colleges are taking everyone’s money and pocketing it for their own. And wasting these student time and money, for-profit colleges might as well be called a scam.
