Mistaken perceptions
Human is to error, and so is my perception of a classmate who I have hated a lot during my campus life. My perception about him has proven to be terribly wrong, in a manner that I thought that some other force has been leading me to a wrong conclusion. I have for long thought that one of my classmates was a homosexual, until I was proven wrong recently. I cannot imagine my perception on the guy has been terribly mistaken. The least I can do is to seek an unconditional apology. Based on my religious background, I have known that homosexuality is a sin, and there is no way I can compromise on that. While I appreciate the fact that I have erred in this case, I have learned a lot about how perceptions can lead to a wrong conclusion.
It was on a Sunday morning, sometimes in June, two years ago, when I found my classmate sitting suggestively at the hostel with a friend of mine. Immediately, my mind was busy thinking about what could have been the reason behind the suggestive look from my classmate. A few days after this incidence occurred, I realized that the relationship between my classmate and a friend of mine was blossoming. They were walking together, doing assignments concurrently, and running personal errands together. This seemed enough for me to conclude that the two guys were engaged in something nit holy. It was so disturbing that I, at one time, sought the attention of our class representative, who paid no attention to the issue.
Recently, I decided to talk with my friend on the issue, and I was surprised I was terribly wrong. I realized my classmate has been going through untold family challenges, and as a result, his life in school had become extremely stressful. He had depended on my friend for emotional support and assistance on academic work. This had led to an extremely close relationship, which, for a while, had been mind-boggling to me. Nevertheless, I have learned that perceptions are sometimes wrong, and hence it is vital to establish facts before coming up with conclusions on any issue.
