Summary and Commentary
The study conducted by the Books Strategy Group i.e., BSG, was aimed at determining the economic as well as the cultural value of written work in the English language. Among the issues that the research activity addressed include; sharing of files, pricing strategies, lending as well as the ownership of, among other aspects. The research activity found out that 8 in every 10 Canadians read books and averaged an approximate reading time of 4-5 hours per week. This was a clear indication that the book reading culture is deeply rooted in the Canadian lifestyle. However, only 10% of the readers’ group read for leisure purposes, while the remaining percentage was identified to read for academic purposes. The popularity of e-books was determined to be more frequent as compared to hard copies, especially among young readers. This was attributed to the ease of accessibility that the e-books presented as compared to hard copies. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
It is to my surprise to find that people still rad for leisure purposes. Today’s society has changed a lot, and with the onset of technology, among other social changes, the concept of leisure has been viewed differently. Most young people have taken into activities such as movies, outdoor activities, as well as social media for entertainment. I believe in the significance of reading as a leisure activity as it helps to increase knowledge as well as bring about enlightenment. Parents, as well as learning institutions, should, therefore, try to develop the reading culture among the younger generation to ensure that they are continually increasing their knowledge as well as an understanding of the world around them.
