CARDING SHOULD NOT BE BANNED AS A POLICING PRACTICE
For the past few decades, there has been controversy surrounding carding policy practice. This practice entails gathering information from individuals at random stops and then transferring the information collected in the database(Singh, 2015). Historically, carding was referred to as “intervention practice” or “street checks,”which is now commonly known as the “community contact policy.” In this essay, I will argue why carding should not be banned as a policing practice.
In my opinion, I believe that carding practice should not be banned as community practice since it is useful; however, it needs fixing. Carding is vital because it helps police intelligence in gathering crucial information through street checks, particularly in some cases where there are precise suspicious circumstances(Singh, 2015). For instance, it helps the police officers in identifying the identity of a missing individual or victim of a particular crime. Therefore, the carding police practice should not be stopped because it aids in identifying crucial intelligence information and suspicious circumstances.. Besides, the carding police practice aids in broadening the protection of community members during vehicle stops and “street checks.” In this regard, the carding forms a vital part of police intelligence- gathering scheme(Décary-Hétu, D., &Leppänen, 2016). Besides, carding serves as an informative technique for police intelligence. This is because it aids police officers in solving some of the criminal activities. For example, if there are a series of criminal activities such as daytime or nighttime break-ins taking place in a particular area.Since the area of the restorative justice system has improved over time, there is a necessity to combine the existing body of observed knowledge. Various authors have given literature reviews about this field. The coming up of meta-analytic methods has contributed to a research analysis by providing an efficient objective manner of knowledge aggregation
The use of carding practice will help police officers in figuring out the people who were in the crime scene and will help them to obtain suspects or witnesses to the crime(Naqvi, 2015). For instance, gun murders increased by 132 % in Toronto in 2018 after abandoning the Carding practice. This shows that carding helped in solving criminal activities.
In conclusion, carding is beneficial, and therefore, it should be banned because it serves as an informative technique for police intelligence. Thus, helping police officers solving criminal activities.
