Herbalist activities had become popular in China town because most of the herbalists incorporated ancient Chinese techniques of medicine that enticed the locals. Chang Yitang settled in the United States of America in 1900 Los Angeles, where he set up a local medical center where he used to offer medical services and advice to his patients. Like many businesses in Chinatown, Chang Yitang had to separate his living quarters with the business premises. According to Chang, “The family lived upstairs in Chang’s house in Los Angeles, while the ground floor served as the doctor’s office, pill factory, pharmacy, and teahouse” (Chang 145). On the ground floor, Chang Yitang administered medical services to his patients by taking their pulse. Used herbs to treat his patients, and this aspect made his medical center renowned.
