Ciprofloxacin

Ciprofloxacin with a generic name of……………..is drug belonging to a class of quinolone antibiotics. The drug is commonly used to diagnose a variety of bacterial infections where it acts by inhibiting the growth of the bacteria. The drug was developed explicitly for use by the adult population. The drug has a wide off label application, especially in children with compromised immune systems. It is used on children with Crohn’s disease, bloody diarrheas, and any form of abdominal abscess.

Patients can exhibit allergic reactions to ciprofloxacin or any other form of quinolone antibiotics. I, therefore, ensure my patient was not allergic to ciprofloxacin. The drug can also result in QT prolongation, which affects the way the heart recharges from one beat to another, causing irregular heartbeat rhythms. It was, therefore, essential to observe the patients’ blood pressure and heart rate so that medication could be terminated in case of severe deviations from the normal rate. I also took the patients’ medical history for diseases such as heart attack, diabetes, tendon problems, kidney and liver diseases as these conditions can emerge when a patient is treated with ciprofloxacin. It is critical to monitors the patient for symptoms such as dizziness, blurred vision, tingling hands, and feet, as well as fast heartbeat, which are indicative of low blood sugar. In this case, the patient can be treated with glucose tablets to stabilize blood sugar

Since the drug is taken orally, I ensure I taught the patient how to measure equal volumes of the drug to avoid an overdose. I asked the patient not to use a household spoon while taking the drug, as this may increase the desired dose. I also asked the patient to always shake the drug well for a few seconds before taking it. I also warmed the patient of chewing the contents of the suspension and asked them to take a lot of fluids while they were on this medication. I taught the patient of the importance of taking the drug at even times every day to help realize maximal benefits. I informed the patient that they should report to the hospital in case of any overdose systems or side effects of the drug.

Duff, in his caring model, suggests that the best way to create a healing environment for any patient is to demonstrate care and love as such an environment initiates healing. I ensured that I maintained a close relationship with my patients by being close to them all through their medication and providing them with the necessities they required during the treatment period. I also taught the patient’s family members how they would care for the patient to ensure they recovered quickly.
