Reshaping of the media

There has been a growth of technological convergence and reshaping of the media in recent years. With websites such as Netflix, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and others suddenly, the film industry has become democratized for any film production organization to reap the advantages in means that would be impossible some years ago. It would have once been the idea that the higher once budget, the more successful your film. However, this fact is becoming ahistory since convergence and reshaping of the media is paving the way for the future.

Reshaping of the media has helped in attracting people of other media into a film target audience that may otherwise not offered it another thought. For instance, Lucas Films requested Lee to publish star wars comics before the release of their initial Star Wars. It brought an impact to its audience since it brought in the whole group of individuals to its target audience, that book becoming comic book readers and Marvel fans. If there was no media reshaping and convergence, Star Wars could not have released a series with Marvel, and the audience might be different from what it is currently.

Although convergence and media reshaping has positive effects on the film industry, it also has a negative impact as well. One of the negative impacts on media reshaping on the film industry is illegal downloading. Many individuals go mainly on the internet expecting all things to be free. People opt for the free option offered by the internet rather than downloading it. Due to this, the industry keeps losing millions of pounds every year. Although this seems illegal, those who do it don’t care.

Although free downloads are termed to be an adverse effect on the film industry, I don’t see it as a significant problem. I say these since most of those who lose to illegal downloading are the blockbusters developers, and hence it seems like it doesn’t have a significant impact. Another thing is that when a person sees a film and like it when the company releases another film or from the same director, it is likely that the person may go out to the cinema to watch it since it offers the best viewing experience. It is free advertising, although it is a personal opinion.
