Comparison of literary works to today’s society
The application of literary works remains pervasive in contemporary society as its application cuts across nearly all the dimensions of life. Many people depend on their work of literature as the primary source of income and the stringent restriction, and copyright measures have made many people indulge in the literal works. The modern society where democracy and free will defines the livelihood of most people has made the use of literal works comprehensive for informing and critiquing the masses on the negative occurrences evident in our society. Both the political and the economic world are short of literal works, and most people are using them as an alternative way of influencing the people, if not social media. In this piece, therefore, the literal work of our concern is speech, and we will exploit the various ways in which contemporary society uses it in the multiple dimensions of life.
A speech is an address formal in nature often delivered to a particular relevant audience. Speech enables us to understand a story based on the experience of an individual. Gaining an insight through the experiences of the other allows us to gain an in-depth view of our society, thus fostering an understanding, empathy, and tolerance to our realm. Speeches delivered by different people are also crucial in today’s society as we gain knowledge of the contemporary texts in a variety of formats and texts from which we gain alternative views on how to improve our society. Additionally, speech requires extensive reading and a broader perspective of our worldview, including the historical contexts. This imbues individuals with the appropriate information useful for the improvement of our society. Don't use plagiarised sources.Get your custom essay just from $11/page
Social matters
Speech has extensive applications in today’s social realms. Some of the social events in contemporary society are weddings, burial ceremonies, church services, or community gatherings. Speech requires the preparation of pieces intended at addressing particular people over a specific issue. In a community, for instance, speech has been used in addressing particular societal vices predominant among people. During gun violence in the US that killed people, there were speeches from various leaders addressing the gun policies. Speeches for these occasions are drafted in such a way to rebuke and make people aware of societal confines within which people should abide.
Wedding ceremonies are not short of speeches in modern-day terms. The wedding itself is an event worth memorizing as it binds two people; therefore, speeches are prepared to express love or commitment or as an encouragement to a tumultuous journey of life that the two are to go through. In burial ceremonies also, loved ones tend to draft speeches reflecting on the good times they were together to act as an encouragement to those remaining on the importance of emulating the lifestyle of the diseased. In a church set up, however, the sermon is always a speech prepared by a pastor. Though not written, it is an expression of the issues relating to morality and Godliness that a pastor adherence from the congregation. Speeches relating to social problems are sometimes available in social media platforms, and their underlying objective is to influence the people to incline to particular societal doctrines consistent with moral principles. Speeches relating to societal reformations have increased since the contemporary society has given people freedom, and abuse of that freedom has remained pervasive.
Political matters
Politics is all about leadership, and I saw this area as having the most significant application of speeches. These speeches tend to employ persuasive strategies and techniques. In politics, the ideologies and the ideas require conveyance to the relevant people before they are agreed upon. Such speeches use words in different ways to convey meaning in a particular way. Many times, the writers of these speeches are professional writers with an in-depth knowledge in the persuasive language. Also, the success of such speeches is not dependent on correctness but on the ability to present valid arguments that people can rely on.
We will consider the US election of 2008 between Former President Barack Obama and the Late John McCain (Kulo). The nature speech was the underlying matter between their speeches; only the literary works and the nature of their arguments could make the American people decide otherwise. The underlying message was the concern of the American Military in Iraq and the American military veterans. The construction of the speeches was such that they could appeal to the emotions and attitudes of the electorates. Obama won for his ability to maneuver his speech to be conscious of the people’s needs.
Speech in a political context is used in various spheres, particularly the activists who champion particular societal vices. The recent was the Joshua Wong led activism in China, where the participants involved speeches in illustrating the nature of vices within the societies (Kulo). Moreover, world leaders in all parts of the globe use speeches when addressing their people. In this regard, therefore, political matters require the articulation of policies and concerns to the people, and speech is the only viable alternative that can be used to pass such information.
Philosophical matters
Philosophy involves the issues governing the confines of our lives and is the fundamental knowledge of nature from which humans can achieve a meaningful life. Philosophy is concerned with how we live as a people ad provides relevant information on what we can do to remain positive in life. In other spheres, this is called motivational speaking and combines experiences and historical perspectives to guide humans on life. Speech is the main medium used for philosophical purposes, and they are drafted to not only catch the attention of the people but also to connect the various experiences that individuals undergo.
One of the best platforms for such kinds of speeches is the TED talks; this is a show that involves speakers from diverse spheres of life exploring different dynamics revolving around the lives of people. The contemporary world focuses on wealth creation, and this tends to put pressure on most people indicated by the many cases of suicide experienced. TED talks use speeches to enlighten people on business issues, relational matters, depression mitigation management among various factors revolving around the quality of life. Speech as a literary work is important for this case as it enables speakers to connect with the audience through the experiences undergone. Social media has become necessary in the use of speeches for philosophical matters as various speakers can target a particular people speaking about specific issues that people, particularly the youth, can access for an in-depth increase in knowledge regarding life fulfillment.
We focused on social, political, and philosophical events in the contemporary world where there has been the use of speeches. Speech involves the articulation of experiences, policies, and truths to the people, and it is a literary work since one has to conduct an in-depth study before coming up with one. Political speeches, for example, use metaphors, voice, SoundBits, and voices intending to appeal to a particular group of people. They still have numerous uses as most global governments are democratic, and elections are periodically done, meaning that speech writing will remain an essential component of the literary works where there is a need to influence a people. I, therefore, hold the view that a speech is vital for all the spheres of our lives as it is the primary mode of sharing information to a large group of people at once.
