The clarity of the case presentation does not meet the 5Ws to start with. For the most part, the author has talked about the why, what, and where but has forgotten to mention the when and who. For example, the focus of the author has been on introducing the breakfast catering model, but it has not specified how this will be done who will do what and by when each decision should be made. The author, however, effectively talks about the situation that led to the challenge. It is clear that an increasingly competitive environment has forced the company to come up with the breakfast strategy. However, the voice of stakeholders and the role they will play into enabling the firm to move into the blue ocean is not well documented as it should be.

The presentation of the background information is robust and comprehensive. All the selves of the company, market and industry backgrounds have been extensively covered. I am particularly impressed by the accurate analysis of the Boston restaurant industry and the analysis of the opportunities and threats in the industry. One can literally follow the company’s growth pattern to the Boston demographic and economical traits of the market. However, the downturn is that the data has not been sufficiently backed up by graphical and relevant images and tabular presentation. However, the use of references ideally complements that author’s work as there is an appropriate use of reliable references.
Rigour
The synopsis effectively captures the reader’s mind and the company’s position in a nutshell. The terminology is effectively used to give a summary of the study findings and how it fits within the organization’s purview. The methodology effectively explains how the data was collected, from what sources, how valid they were, and how they fit in the case analysis. For example, the author reports that the data was collected from interviews, websites and document resource centres of the US Census Bureau and the Boston government. The methodology is fairly accurate and complete, which gives the findings a clean bill of health.
Depth of analysis
The depth of the case analysis is mostly complete with facts and statistics that show the areas of concern for the business. For example, the reports talk about how the company can move from the red ocean to the blue ocean by tapping on the breakfast catering strategy. The report also analyses the SWOT and PESTEL analysis to identify threats and opportunities in the operating environment. The author effectively uses statistics and facts to develop a logical argument that is used to develop recommendations. The competitor analysis is complete with its market positions facts supported by market segmentation figures. The status summary of the Boston market data expectations builds a resilient case report.
Strength of recommendations & Implementations
The report’s recommendation and implementation strategy are fairly complete with the use of appropriate terminologies. The most impressive thing is the way information cascades down from a summary of the recommendations into a four-point action plan. Overall the recommendations and implementation is fairly robust.
