What are some of your responsibilities and duties on a daily basis?
In most instances, I find myself attending to clients and answering all the questions they may have in regards to the services offered. Additionally, I also ensure that the front desk is neat and presentable, redirect phone calls to the appropriate departments, maintain client records and files, among other responsibilities.
What are some of the likes and dislikes about your job?
First of all, I do this job because I love it. It gives me a chance to interact with different people from different cultures and places from all over the world. As such, I get to learn a lot just by interacting with guests and assisting them when necessary. My names are Martin Osborne, and I work as a waiter at the Concorde Hotel. I have been working as a waiter in this facility for the past nine months now.
Why did you decide to work in this specific sector and not any other area?
I chose to walk as a waiter because it is one of the jobs that pay well despite having minimal requirements. As a waiter, one can make additional money from tips left by happy clients which go a long way in supplementing the salary that we get.
What are some of your duties and responsibilities as a waiter?
My main duties include greeting and guiding customers to their tables, taking orders, presenting them with menus and explaining to them when required to so. Besides, it is my duty as a waiter to take orders, communicate the orders with the kitchen staff, and ensure that the dining area is well arranged.
What are some of the things you like and dislike most about your job?
The thing I like most about my job is seeing satisfied customers. In most cases, a happy customer will not only leave you motivated but will also leave behind a good tip for your troubles. Personal Impressions of the hospitality sector
From the interviews conducted above, it is clear that the hospitality sector offers a lot of opportunities for people to work in the service industry. The most important thing that all the interviewees had in common was their love for people. Consequently, it is paramount that one has proper communication skills and good interpersonal skills if they are to become successful professions in this industry. Furthermore, all the interviewees did not complain about the pay in their various sectors. Hence, it can be concluded that the sector is rewarding financially. Finally, I would advise my fellow students who love travel and interact with people to pursue a career in the hospitality industry as it is not only rewarding financially but also socially.
