Dealing with active willed children
In Dr.james Dobson’s book, he provides helpful guidelines that help them deeply understand their children, including the ones they feel are challenging to handle. And the best approach to situations that their children may be experiencing without causing traumatizing and feeling them feel insecure. Dobson provides an understanding of dealing with a deviant active willed child not only for the therapist but also to the parents’ perspective. In my view the spanking of children is not advisable to parents due to the following aspects;
Exhibition of intense, angry outbursts
Some children happen to be so angered based on the approach that their parents handle their mistakes. Some exhibit so much anger for an extended period that may trigger them to make decisions that are weird and are likely to cause pain to the parents if the parents apply the corporal ways of disciplining the children (Dobson, 2004).
Arguments forever
Strong-willed children happen to involve themselves in heated discussions with the seniors, including their parents, owing explanation as to why they are facing disciplinary action, application of the corporal method to discipline the child. It creates barriers between the two parties, making it hard for the parent to know the problems of the child who feel insecure explaining themselves to avoid being disciplined once more this making such children live a sorrowful life (Dobson, 2004).
Failure to do things they don’t want to do
These children exhibit characters that they refuse to do something they don’t feel like doing, parents are advised to avoid spanking of the child to force them towards the task but use other interactive measures that will ensure the breakage of the firm stand of the child (Dobson,2004).
Spare the rod spoil the child
It is argued that when you spare the corporal part of punishment by being too soft to the child will results to the upbringing of a child who is ill-mannered this disguising the application of Dobson approach when dealing with a child by ensuring at times discipline is met by use of some force( Dobson,2004).
