Effects of Digital Infrastructure
Introduction
Digital infrastructure has been significantly impacting the lives of many people during this period of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. Some of the digital infrastructures meet the values of people who created them, leaving others in psychological problems. For instance, the government has developed digital infrastructures such as mapping and internet that allow the people in isolation to communicate with other people across the world (Drabinski, 2018). The digital infrastructure plays a critical role in mitigating some adverse social effects among people in isolation. However, digital infrastructure brings various psychological problems among the quarantined people. In regard, this essay is tailored to discuss how digital infrastructures are affecting people in isolation psychologically.
The digital infrastructure, such as developed internet, has become the only way to help people interact with their friends and families while they are in isolation. As the regimes are aware of the boredom faced by people under isolation, they keep creating and innovating digital infrastructures during this SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. However, digital infrastructures have created social evils such as stigmatization and creating avenues for some people to hit back their rivals (Anderson et al., 2020).
First, some people use the internet to create anxiety among people in society and particularly those in isolation. Instead of comforting people facing difficulties in the quarantine facilities, many of the internet users try to show how the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic is taking the souls of many people. Such a situation increases psychological illness among people who are quarantined. Some of the scientists have argued that spreading fake news through digital platforms minimizes the recovery chances of the victims (Anderson et al., 2020). As a result, some people develop high blood pressure, among other diseases such as heart attacks. Therefore, developing digital infrastructures during this pandemic can even create a more adverse condition as compared to the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic itself.
