Montaigne’s Cannibales review
Montaigne’s Cannibales is a film which tells about two stories both focusing on karamakate who was an Amazonian shaman and the two scientists who worked together trying to get specific curing plant. In everyday life, people come into contact with unknown people to them. First contact takes place as people move to new places and interacts with new people. When someone moves to a new country, they might meet people there who are from different cultures with features they have never seen. In in this movie, karamakate has forgotten most of his customs, and he meets with Evan who has k knowledge about the plant, and he chooses to help him because his purpose to was to secure the curing plant.
Colonialism still exists in some nations. When words colonialism is mentioned, it does not only mean about slaves. There are other acts which the top people in a country might do to the people which shows colonialism. Most of the nations, there are classes such that the first-class people receive high favour in many ways like better treatment while the minority like women and poor are not valued much. The poor people might even be denied their rights to live in their land happily. In the film, when the amazon continues to burn, non-indigenous people are not able to use the land for agricultural activities. This means that they are not highly valued like the indigenous people.
Indigenous people got the rights of their homeland. However, this might not be applicable in most of the places. Some people might not be given even the chance to express themselves about what they want. For example, when amazon burning went viral, that was the first time for the indigenous people to get the opportunity to speak out their voices. This means that they were denied rights to speak even when in trouble. Therefore, based on the expansion given above with the relevant examples, it’s true that the Montaigne’s Cannibales relates to contemporary colonialism, first contact and Indigenous rights.
