Primary Health Care Project in Canada
In essence, the primary healthcare entails the approach of health approaches and the spectrum of services that exceed the traditional health systems. Primary health care constitutes all services that play a role in health. For instance, housing, environment, education, and housing are all examples of core services by PHC. Similarly, primary health care focuses on health promotion, prevention of diseases and injuries, diagnosis, and treatment of diverse ailments. Health care in Canada and its federal departments focus on a broad spectrum of health services and activities that constitutes PHC. Canadian chronic disease awareness and management program is an example of a PHC project in Canada.
The C-ChAMP project is a mobile health care approach that focuses on awareness of the effects of chronic diseases on health among Canadian citizens and across the globe (Bahha, 2016). The aim of the project emphasizes the importance of prevention and prompt intervention of chronic disease. The project fulfills the concept of population health, health promotion, and disease prevention through the incorporation of the five core principles, i.e., acceptability, inter-sectoral cooperation, public participation, health promotion, and appropriate technology for PHC. The project avails universal health awareness services to all entities within the Canadian community, irrespective of geographical location (Nicholson et l., 2020). Also, since the most prevalent chronic health concerns i.e., Cardiovascular health conditions, rely on interactions of established factors, health promotion remains a fundamental focus of the project.
Public participation incorporated within the project facilitates the identification of health risks within the community to promote health by reducing the modifiable risk factors such as smoking, heavy alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyles, and high amounts of salt intake that contribute to chronic diseases. Health promotion services offered by the program aims at providing alternative approaches to the reduction of risk factors. It helps in reducing the incidence and prevalence of national and international chronic health concerns that are continually on the rise across the globe (Nicholson et al., 2020). Similarly, the project utilizes appropriate PHC health technology that facilitates improved knowledge. Also, technological advancements recognize the alternatives to high-tech services in creating awareness at the community level. Ultimately, the use of intersectoral approaches aids in improving the community and also population-based prevention and management of chronic ailments.
