Week 2

Timeline Activities: The main activity here was to demonstrate the need for project management metrics and their importance in effective management time, cost and scope. The project management metrics were important in determining the efficiency of the main components of the project, such as time, cost, and scope. By using the metrics, the project implementation team was able to manage all the main components of the project.

Roadblocks and How to Overcome Them: There were challenges in collection of data from the project which was important in developing the metrics. This was resolved by designing data collection methods for each component of the project such as time, cost and scope.

Week 3 and 4

Timeline Activities: In these two weeks, the timeline activity will be to apply the knowledge of project metrics to identify the key characteristics of properly defined metrics and characterize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) as used in metric-driven project management. Properly defined metrics have characteristics such as accuracy, efficiency and portability. By analyzing the project management metrics, it will be easier to identify Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) like productivity and resource utilization. The KPIs will show the strong and weak areas of the project.

Roadblocks and How to Overcome Them: The roadblock here will be to decide on which factors and data to consider when determining the KPIs. Unavailabity of accurate data that may be used define and characterize different aspects of the project metrics. In order to overcome these roadblocks, the project implementation team will put up mechanisms that will enable proper collection of data and a comprehensive analysis will be carried out to determine the KPIs.

Week 5 and 6

Timeline Activities: In this period, the activities to be carried out are; apply value-based project management metrics as important in selecting the right metrics and explore project performance dashboards including designs, use, and limitations. Value-based project management metrics will help to gauge the input and output ratio of each project component and the result will show the efficiency of each component. This will help to show which aspects are adding more value to the project. The use of project performance dashboards will useful in performing analysis on the various aspects of the project in order to generate their performance metrics. It will also be important to know the limitation of each dashboard so as to know which one is more efficient to use in the analysis.

Roadblocks and How to Overcome Them: Choosing the right value-based metrics will be one of the main roadblocks in this activity. This is because the selection requires a comprehensive analysis. The selection of the project management dashboards that fit the project being carried out will also be another challenge since most of them have a number of limitations. In order to overcome this roadblocks, it will be important to conduct a comprehensive analysis of all the project performance metrics. On the performance dashboards, the ones with minimal limitations and higher efficiency should be chosen first.

Week 7 and 8

Timeline Activities: In this timeline, the main activities will be to Explore the applications of visual project management tools such as performance dashboards and to create proper performance indicators for application in measurement-driven project management. Visual management tools will be useful in illustrating the performance metrics of the project. This will help the project implementation team to visualize the strengths and shortcomings of each performance metrics. Measurement-driven project management makes use of the project management metrics which provide a comprehensive measurement in terms of the output versus the input of each project component.

Roadblocks and How to Overcome Them: The major roadblock in these activities will be the knowledge on how to use the various visual management teams and how to overcome their limitations. Another roadblock will be to design KPIs that can be used in measurement-driven project management since this requires a lot of data from the project. These will be overcome by training the project team on how to use various visual management tools and ensuring that enough data is collected from the project that can be used in measurement-driven project management.
